Neu! 86

Great, just like the rest of Neu!
I'll just say that I really like this album, a lot. It sounds pretty much perfect to me. I love all of the Neu! stuff and this is just as great, if a bit different. Some tracks, like "Drive," have a classic motorik beat that is very reminiscent of the first three Neu! albums. The guitar styling is different than how Rother might have played on those albums. The album itself sounds like Neu! after a decade of Rother's solo work and Dinger's work on four La Dusseldorf albums. If you listen to Rother's "Lust" and Dinger's "Neonindian," then you really shouldn't be surprised to hear some of the newer sounds and the vibe of this album. It's rather continuous of where Rother and Dinger were at during this time, musically. That said, it's strange they couldn't agree on releasing it then but I gather reasons other than musical approval had something to play in that regarding the personal and business dynamics between the band. That's a shame, but I'm so glad Rother was able to finally put an official mix of this work together. It is an improvement in sonic quality and cohesiveness over the (already good) version released in the '90s as "Neu! 4". (And I love the album art color scheme.)

Very enjoyable entry in the Neu! catalog
While not as innovative as the first three albums, Neu! 86 is still a very enjoyable, interesting album and any krautrock fan should own it. More reminiscent of the late 70s-early 80s output of the solo projects by the CAN members, this one relies much more on synthsizers and keyboards but still has that Rother/Dinger beat and guitar work. I like this one a lot and find it grows on me with each listen.

Sounds and looks great
The vinyl has a neat color, sounds great without any bad noise/warping, and the music is great too.Nothing wrong with the sleeve. Closest to a complaint I can get is the cheap paper inner, but for below $20, it’s definitely fine. Highly recommended.

Neu! - 'Neu! '86' (Gronland Records)
The duo's brief 1985-86 reunion album. However, I spoke with a major krautrock fan in Iowa awhile back that informed me that he personally knew the two musicians in Cluster, Michael Rother, among a few other cosmic rock players and he told me that the Neu! '4' CD was a hoax - that there never was a mid '80's reunion between Rother and Klaus Dinger (R.I.P.). BREAKING NEWS: I had recently gotten a reply from Michael Rother and this what he told me - that Klaus Dinger had used some material that the two had recorded in 1985-86 - then, at a later time without Rother's knowledge he had turned 'Neu! 4' over to Captain Trip Records for an official release - because he was feeling isolated as an artist. After Dinger's 2008 passing, Rother went back in the studio (with the approval of Dinger's widow, Miki Yui) to re-do the Neu! - '4' CD to an improved version on what is now titled as 'Neu! '86'. With that said, I still got something out of this (unofficial) fourth Neu! effort. Don't get me wrong, it is an okay title to own. With some worthy tunes like "Danzing", "Crazy", the upbeat "Drive (Grundfunken)", "Wave Mother" and "Paradise Walk" make this CD not a bad find. "Good Life" is a bit like a late '70's New Wave underground club hit and "KD" is a two-minute silly number that brings everything to an end to 'Neu! '86'. Personally, my two favorite Neu! titles are the 1971 self-titled first Neu! record and the 'Live '72' (even though a lot of fans don't like it, I do). Listen to this site's provided sound clips for Neu! - 'Neu! '86' - then go from there.

A classic in it's genre
What an amazing album of its genre, with such an interesting heritage. Recorded in 1985, Klaus Dinger would not approve release, a scrum in 1995, and finally remastered and released 25 years later. Wave mother is a masterpiece.from wikiNeu! 4 was recorded and mixed between October 1985 and April 1986 at Grundfunk Studio and Dinerland-Lilienthal Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany, and Michael Rother Studio in Forst, Germany. This was the first time Rother and Klaus Dinger had entered a studio together since 1975. However, the sessions were not completed and the planned album was abandoned. n early 2010, Rother announced that he had arrived at an agreement arranged with Dinger's heir, Miki Yui, and had completely remastered the album from original multitrack and master tapes to produce Neu! '86, which he termed "our fourth studio album"

Wunderbar!
