I'm a gear hound. I picked one of these beauties up and gave it a go. I just purchased a second one.Feels great in the hand and solid. Belt clip is easy to attach. Lots of bells and whistles. Well worth the money. Can be programmed via Bluetooth (With Odmaster App on cellphone - Android and iPhone), cable (included) or on the keyboard. Haven't had the battery give out yet. Color display is engaging without being garish or distorted. Easy to read. Includes pretty much everything you need for a complete station on your belt. External mic is solid and sounds great on both transmit and receive.Can't comment on Weather band because my area is a bit spotty, but it does function.It's possible to "open up" the frequency range to beyond the Amateur Radio frequency allocation with a combination of key presses upon power-up to include FRS, GMRS and MURS, but know that the FCC kind of frowns on such actions, so proceed at your own risk. ;)10 Watts is a "touch much" for a handheld, so I keep it at two or five Watts to prevent overheating (it gets "slightly warm" during a long keydown) and to maximize battery life, although it comes with two.With an external antenna and power supply this unit would make for a fine low powered base or mobile station.All in all, if you have the means, I highly recommend picking one (or two) up.See you on the air. :)

In writing a review of a product I purchased, I take into consideration its cost, how it performs for the cost and what comes with it for the cost. Generally, I find lower cost radios deficient in their quality and function; However, the TIDRADIO TD-H8 is not an expensive radio but still achieves a 5-star rating as an excellent choice for anyone looking for an affordable, powerful, feature-rich, and easy-to-use dual band radio.It features a true 10-watt output power, which provides long-range communication, a large color dual display, weather band, FM radio and a built-in Bluetooth module for wireless programming.In using the TD-H8, I've been really impressed with it. The range is excellent, the audio quality is clear, and the battery life is long. I also love the fact that I can program the radio wirelessly on the go. It's so much easier than using a programming cable.Overall, I highly recommend the TIDRADIO TD-H8. The TIDRADIO TD-H8 offers SOOOOOOO much more than other offshore radios at similar price points! Add to that the value of the package offered in this item (extra battery, hand mic, etc.) and to me this is a no-brainer decision for the new or experienced ham user! The radio has a solid, quality feel in the hand. Both TX/RX audio are crisp and clear and RX audio can be LOUD without distortion. Programming is simple via CHIRP or the Odmaster app and I really like being able to save a 'home' file in the app but if travelling I can easily create a local file of repeaters in the area, load them via BT from my phone, enjoy the trip, and then again load my home profile once back on my home turf. Battery life is exceptional (even at high/10W output) and having a spare battery is so convenient. The additional antenna provided is an improvement over the stock antenna, but honestly the stock antenna is pretty darned good. The audio in both directions for the TIDRADIO speaker/mic is also far and above many competing products.All said and done I would say the H8 provides what I would call the best VALUE at this price point! It does cost a little more than some other entry level radios, but that minimal cost difference provides a much better quality product (and thus much more enjoyable experience) in my opinion.I would highly recommend the TIDRADIO TD-H8 to anyone, new or seasoned, in the radio hobby.
