Like any cotton towels, avoid using fabric softeners or dryer sheets which coat the towel and reduce absorbency. Review: Do yourself a favor and read the instructions for maximum enjoyment. - These are beautiful towels. As my first set of waffle weave, I wanted to make sure I was getting the most out of my towels. The included card suggests washing the towels in order to activate the waffle effect, so please do not use these towels out of the bag, as you won't get the intended absorbency effect to the same degree. Additionally, fresh from the bag, the towels are much larger than they will be after being washed and allowing the waffle cup patterns to develop. Regardless of "shrinkage", you still get a very large bathsheet, so please do not worry about that aspect. After two washes, the color has held fast, but again, this is largely predicated by following the instructions on the card, which means that at least initially, you will want to wash these towels separately from other towels/linens. Finally, these are not the softest towels by any measure, especially as compared to terry cloth. Regardless, what is lost in initial softness is gained in superior absorbency, ease of drying and compact folding. Two towels can be folded in the space that one terry cloth towel of equal size would take up. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and am comfortable giving it five stars overall even if it could easily be four due to technical issues that will resolve over time.
