I switched to microfiber face clothes when I started using retinal, my current ones were ever so slightly abrasive and irritating (and essentially exfoliating) my sensitive skin. These have been a game changer, they're incredibly soft, a perfect size, durable, wash well (don't use fabric conditioner) and really gentle on skin. I can't speak for make up removal but they absorb well(ish), they aren't as absorbent as a regular towel but work well for what I need them for.
