The orange and black plastic casing around the flat side of the lock cracked within a week of use -- probably from bouncing around in my metal basket. There's a plastic bit around the keyhole that sometimes gets misaligned, but once you get used to twisting it back with your key before locking or unlocking it is fine. I think it actually might be intentional (the lock is advertised as being hard to pick). For the price, this is a great lock. Gold sold secure for the same price as a lock with no security rating. My bike has yet to be stolen, which I consider a sign of success. I would have rather the plastic casing not cracked, but as the metal beneath is still fine, that isn't really a problem from a safety standpoint. I never even tried using the mount for the lock, which some other reviewers said was faulty. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. Strong lock and extra cable for the price of a weak lock. I feel safe locking my bike with this and leaving it.

The Master D lock is solid and reliable, but the supplied cable is not reliable as it could be easily cut. Thus this lock is good around town in daylight while you go to the shops.

Brought this lock for its gold standard which validated my cycle travel insurance and since most other gold or indeed silver standard locks cost near on half the value of the average bike I gambled on this lock to secure my cycle tour around Spain and France. The link is heavy which could be an issue for some however gave me added assurance. It has a long 'U' which I found handy enabling me to lock my bike to more objects with ease or double up your front wheel to your back. What really comes in handy is the long and tough cable that you can attach to the D lock, this enabled me to lock my trailer to the bike on my travels. As others may have highlighted the locking mechanism is a little temperamental but nothing a little 'jiggle' won't sort out, in 4 years of regular use this has only been a minor inconvenience though. All in all if you can still grab one of these for a good price I strongly recommend you do, it may be heavy but not as heavy as that feeling you get when you find your beloved bikes been nicked.

I notice that quite a few people have had keys stuck in locks etc. I find that if I just align the slots, push in the key and open it all works best if you use the minimal pressure possible. If I try and open it by using any force then difficulties start. If, however, I simply let the key almost fall into the lock using a feather light touch, on my lock, there really is no problem. I never used the bracket as the lock was too long for my frame. I actually thread it around the seat post, and around a back fork (through the top triangle behind the seat). The lock then lies next to the frame and keeps out of my way. I have this lock and another D lock and a kryptonite cable so at least two locks need to be compromised before the bike can be taken. I've also gone back to an old bike my first one being stolen (before I got D locks) and I'm happy that this lock keeps the bike safe and being Gold Secure Standard is good enough for my insurance purposes should the bike get stolen or the lock compromised.

Great lock. Got new bike and just what I needed. Sturdy and strong.

The good: it’s a solid D-lock, and nice and long so will be easy to use where shorter ones can be a bit difficult. The bad: the mount doesn’t give me much confidence, so I ended up buying velcro ties to lend more support mounting it on the frame. The cable that comes with it is on reflection pretty pointless, because it attaches to the D-lock. Once the thieves have cut the D-lock they can just take the cable off anyway. The cable could do with some cable tie attachment, because it doesn’t coil up tidily, and again I’m having to go and buy things to sort the problem out. Overall though, it’s a decent lock just as good but cheaper than you’d buy on the high street.

This lock is great value for money. It is Gold Sold Secure approved, which often helps with getting bike insurance, and the additional cable means you can lock the front quick release wheel too. A useful feature is that the key hole has an easy to use slidable plastic cover so that the mechanism is protected from the elements. I have previously bought a D-lock for £15ish which lasted only a month or so of winter before the lock mechanism had rusted to almost beyond use. This is much longer lasting, and so much better value for money.

Good heavy duty lock and cable.

El candado cumple con su función. A veces cuesta desbloquear porque la llave no termina de entrar bien, pero nada que no se arregle con algo de maña. El mayor problema que presenta es el soporte para llevarlo en la bicicleta. Llevo apenas unas semanas con el, habré salido 5 veces con la bicicleta y el soporte ya está roto. Ahora tengo que llevarlo de mala manera porque no hay opción de arreglarlo. Muy decepcionado con esto. Ya sabéis. Si no queréis llevar el candado en un abolsa o colgado del manillar, este no es vuestro candado.

Trotz Skepsis wegen der wenigen und dann noch eher negativen Kommentare zum Masterlock Bügelschloss/8285LW habe ich das Schloss bestellt. Meine Gründe dafür: Das Schloss genügt der Sicherheitsstufe 10 und hat vor allem deshalb bei allen Tests, die ich sonst gefunden habe, sehr gut abgeschnitten. Erwähnenswert ist neben den 4 Schlüsseln, dass ein zusätzliches Stahseil mit Schlingen an den Enden mitgelierfert wird. Zu beachten ist freilich, dass sich die hohe Sicherheitsstufe nur auf das Bügelschloss selber bezieht, nicht auf das Stahlseil. Dieses Stahlseil ist trotzdem aus mehreren Gründen gut: Man kann damit zusätzlich sein Vorderrad oder weitere Fahrräder sichern und/oder es zusätzlich um einen dickeren Sicherungspfosten schlingen. Ich führe es als zusätzliche Sicherung am Fahrrad mit. Ich habe es hierfür bei Nichtgebrauch unter dem Sattel um die Stangen gewickelt und mit einem kleinen Zahlenschloss gesichert, damit ich es nur hervor kramen muss, wenn ich es an dunklen Ecken zusätzlich brauche. Bei Gebrauch werden die offenen Enden dann mit ins Bügelschloss eingehängt. Die Kritikpunkte in anderen Rezensionen bezogen sich nicht auf die Sicherheit oder auf die Ausstattung, sondern auf folgende Punkte: 1) Die Halterung, mit der das Bügelschloss bei Nicht-Gebrauch am Fahrrad geparkt wird, sei unbrauchbar. Das Schloss würde sofort bei unebenem Gelände (Kopfsteinpflaster) heraus purzeln. Ich habe das gründlich getestet: Unser Kopfsteinpflaster um die Ecke und eine längere Ruckeltour auf einem Feldweg hat das Schloss völlig unbewegt in seiner Halterung überstanden. Hierfür muss man lediglich nach Anleitung die mitgelieferte Schnellspannerschraube am Halter montieren, mit der das Schloss sehr schnell und sehr sicher im Halter fixiert werden kann. 2) Das Schloss klappere bei Unebenheiten. Das muss ich leider bestätigen. Es ist schon merkwürdig, dass man ein so hochwertiges Schloss baut und es dann im eingerasteten Zustand klappert. Die Bügelenden klappern im abgeschlossenen Zustand in den Führungen. Das hätte man sicherlich besser machen können. Eine Lösung: Da es ein metallisches Klappern ist, hat es mich so genervt, dass ich Teile der Enden mit Gewebeklebeband umwickelt habe. Es hat mich mehrere Versuche gekostet, den Teil zu finden, mit dem man das Klappern stoppt, ohne dass die Umwicklung zu dick ist, um es noch einstecken zu können. Dann aber war Schluss mit Klappern. Insgesamt meine ich, dass bei einem Schloss die Sicherheit im Vordergrund steht. Die steht hier und in den anderen Rezensionen außer Frage. Dafür hat es sich meiner Meinung nach schon 4 Sterne verdient. Bei dem Preis und dazu noch der Ausstattung (Stahlseil, 4 Schlüssel) ist das Preis/Leistung-Verhältnis ausgezeichnet. Hätte ich das Klappern nicht mit etwas Gewebeklebeband stoppen können, hätte ich mich zwischen 4 und 5 Sternen entscheiden müssen. So aber vedient es bei diesem Preis die vollen 5 Sterne. Product is up to grade hardened steel. The downsides are the holder is only in one place making the product wobbly when you're doing rough runs and is made of plastic which can easily broke if overscrewed (happened to mine). I wish they made the holder as two pieces to make it stable enough.

Very powerful strong materials for both Lock and wire.

Anti vol choisi pour sa robustesse. Je ne suis pas déçu il a l’air de qualité. Un plastique servant de support est fourni pour attacher l’anti vol à la selle mais je ne m’en sert pas je préfère le ranger dans une sacoche. J’ai pris le grand modèle pour pouvoir attacher 2 vélos ou pour attraper un grand poteau, jusqu’à présent je n’ai pas eu de problème je ne regrette pas mon choix le petit aurait été trop juste.
