Fabulous Kayak ‼️
UPDATE: After using this kayak 7 times at 2-4 hours per outing, I can say I love this Kayak! I’m more use to it now and found out I can edge on it very comfortably. If you never kayaked before you might not be able to appreciate how maneuverable this is. You will just think it’s tippy or unstable. It’s NOT. It’s fast and maneuverable‼️😎 The only negative for me is it’s not as easy to get in or out of compared to a sit on top kayak but that’s because I’m old and fat. I highly recommend this kayak for intermediate kayakers. Beginners — I still recommend unless they are non active type of people. This kayak is Lightweight, Easy to Paddle and Transport, Tracks Well, and it’s Fast. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. The bottom has a modified V shape hull so it’s a little more tippy than a heavy, flat-bottomed SitOnTop kayak. But, I got used to it in a few minutes and was loving paddling this sit inside kayak. It’s very responsive. Now, getting in and out: Easy Peasy‼️ I practiced a few times in my garage. Best advice I can give is: sit down first on the cockpit frame right behind the backrest (I sat on the backrest 😂), swing one leg in, then the other leg in as you lower your butt into the seat. Just keep your center of gravity low and hold onto the cockpit sides. Best to get in and out in water that’s only a few inches deep while you’re getting used to it. . Getting out: hold on to the sides and raise your butt up onto the cockpit frame and backrest. One leg out then all together push up with your hands and stand up and lift your other leg out. That’s it. And by the way, I’m 65 yrs old with 2 artificial hips and 30 lbs overweight. The foot stops inside the Kayak are great also. 4 different positions for various leg lengths. I’m loving this kayak and it’s a game changer from my sit on top kayak. I highly recommend this Pelican Maxim 100. Worth every dollar 👍😎

It is tippy very tippy.
I read the other reviews before purchasing that said this thing was very tippy, and they are not wrong. I am a beginner kayaker. I am also obese 240 lbs 50 year old woman with no core strength. I bought it for exercise. when I first got in I just about tipped over. Getting in and out is the hardest part, it does take a little practice. If you move your pelvis slightly the entire kayak moves. Your stability depends on your core muscles. You have to stay upright and will definitely tip if you lean to the side. It’s incredibly responsive to your body movement. I think this will be a good quality as I gain more skill. It tracks really well and it handles really well. I was able to move through the water quickly. I’m definitely sore after my first trip but that’s a good thing. If you’re a beginner you can do this, but just understand what you’re getting into. I kayak on a calm lake And I don’t go more than swimming distance to the shore line in case I do tip over. Get a leash for your paddle and one of those water tight floating bags for your cell phone. Do not go out in deep water or very turbulent water if you are a newbie with this kayak. I also never go out in more than 5 mile an hour wind speed. Wear swimming clothes and shoes you can get wet. I had no problems, lifting the kayak out of my cargo van and dragging it through the woods A short distance. it’s lightweight enough, even for me. I am really impressed with the kayak so far.

Exactly What I Was Expecting
This is the perfect Kayak for me. I am 6'3", 210lbs. I was looking for something light-weight that I could carry from my beach condo to the surf for launching. At only 36 pounds, very easy to carry to the sand. The pull handles at front and back also allow me to drag it to the water in the sand once I get off the boardwalk. I am 58 years old, never kayaked before. So I knew up front, I had to practice a few times to get comfortable. Yes, I did tip over a few times my first time. I expected this, and you should too. Like anything else, a little patience and practice, and I became comfortable very quickly with the kayak. I practiced on 3-4' of water, so that I could touch the bottom easily. My first several launches was in the Chesapeake Bay, right at the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean. Certainly not flat water. This also added to my practicing skills. I purchased this kayak in September 2021, practiced all through the winter on weekends at my own pace (with a wetsuit of course), and now that its springtime, I am looking to get out in the warm sunshine. If you read the 1 & 2-star ratings, the real complaints those folks had was the 'stability'. I am not an expert, but as a beginner, you have to expect and accept this and practice it. Otherwise, buy yourself a raft. Pelican also offers a fishing version of this kayak. I wanted the bright yellow for visibility on the Bay for safety reasons, and I am already buying some of the rod holders and a few other items from Pelican to trick out the kayak a little more to do some kayak fishing. This is a really big sport on the Chesapeake Bay, I plan to enjoy my newly-taught skill this summer. If you know how to ride a bike, then you should be able to teach yourself the stability portion of a kayak in a day or two. You just have to practice a little bit up front. I hope this review helps you decide. Hope to see you on the Bay in Virginia.

I toyed with the idea of an inflatable kayak, but as soon as I put this in the water, I was so glad I opted for a hardshell. Will it win races? Probably not, but I'm satisfied with the quality and performance. It's light enough to load onto my sedan after a river paddle and easy enough to carry solo. I also was able to snag this for a song of a deal and they delivered to my door. An absolute no brainer I will enjoy for years to come.
