hmm. maybe steel? they are heavy duty, and very sharp.

Has anyone taken these apart to sharpen them? I have a pair from a different brand, and now the nut and bolt won't hold together after disassembly.

Do not take apart. Sharpen with any sharpener designed to sharpen plant pruners. I have sharpened 8-9 times over several years.
