A revealing memoir of Jamaican reggae singer Bob Marley from the woman who knew him better than anyone—his wife. Rita Marley met Bob Marley in a recording studio in Trench Town, Jamaica when she was eighteen. A year later, they were married. The two of them set the world on fire. But life with Bob was not easy. A definite page turner for all fans of the Marleys.
Excellent book - what a story, I can't believe the trials and tribulations Rita went through. This is beautifully written and easy to read, I started Tim White's book which is supposed to be the ultimate biography but I can't read more than a few pages a day because its more like a college lesson in Bob Marley than an biography. I couldn't put this book down. I would have given 5 stars except I didn't like the part where she talks about Bob having just one underpants - was it really necessary to mention that, or was it just to add some spice, she says she wants readers to know where he came from, but at this point he had returned from Delaware so I'm skeptical about this one pair thing. I also don't understand how she allowed Mr. Marley to flaunt his many lovers, coming to his hotel room while on tour is one thing but when he brought them to her house [where she lived with their kids] couldn't she at least have made him aware that she wouldn't stand for that, he was the breadwinner but still how can one show up at your wife's house with different girlfriends. I found that very disturbing and I'm sorry that Rita had to go through that. But I admire the way she has carried on Bob's legacy and didn't bear a grudge and how she kept her head above water. I only wish I had been able to attend one of his concerts, unfortunately growing up in Africa I didn't get the chance. Thank you Rita for your strength and you telling us this incredible story.

Inspirational Rita Marley
Rita Marley lived a life with her husband that most women would have walked away from. Initially, I thought the same thing. As you get deeper into her story, you learn what real love looks like, and you begin to understand why she stayed. Rita knew she had to become self-sufficient when she saw her husband getting caught up in fame and notoriety. She suffered publicly and silently from the humiliation Bob put her through. However, her love for him through it all is what's kept his legacy alive. Rita shares so much knowledge and wisdom in this book that I have dubbed her my new sherow. This book is a true love story.

Makes you feel like you were there
No Woman No Cry is easy to read and really does make you feel like you were there in Jamaica when Rita met Bob Marley. The ups and downs of their journey will make you smile, but sorry Bob, it WILL make you CRY, too. Trenchtown and St Anne's are vividly painted and the struggles they went through are deeply felt. You also realize the enormous work and effort that went into Bob's music and career, along with his gargantuan talent. It's obvious that Rita's indomitable spirit and sacrifice also helped make this great musician's career & success happen. Bob was a musical genius ahead of his time and Rita was a huge force behind the scenes. Throughout his many affairs, it was Rita who was always still the rock he could count on. After Bob's tragic death, Rita soldiered on raising his many children to be happy, healthy adults -- and keeping the light shining bright on his legacy. I love Bob -- his message, his dynamic personality and his music; but after this book, I really appreciate Rita. I also love the background characters like Auntie! Most remarkable are Bob and Rita's humanity! Thank you, Rita Marley, for continuing that humanitarian mission after Bob passed.

I was very interest
In learning more about Bob Marley after watching documentary movie about him. My Son, who’s 50 loves Bob’s music is why I wanted to see the film. His wife writes about their marriage and the difficulty of their life together though they always loved each other. I may try reading other books about him, such a tragic story. I highly recommend the book.

Couldn’t put the book down!
I couldn’t put the book down. I read all 209 pages in two days. Excellent read for fans of Rita and Bob! There’s a slight difference between the movie (2024 with Kingsley Ben-Adir) and the events in this book. I read this after watching the movie. You’ll get a clearer picture of Bob’s life with this book. Don’t get me wrong, I thought the movie was spectacular, but read the book. You won’t put it foment. Ever time I hit the end of a chapter, I felt the need to read the next chapter.

No Woman No Cry
I had doubts before reading this book. I was afraid that Rita Marley may simply have written a book to glorify the memory of Bob Marley, using vaguely new age pseudo philosophy to excuse or even omit his well-known foibles (he had 8 illegitimate children after having married Rita) I couldn't have been more mistaken. The book is painfully honest. Marley talks about the two very young and naive adults they were when they fell in love, and the vicissitudes of their marriage over the years. She remains modest but is absolutely transparent as she writes about her love for her husband and her even greater love for her children (and, amazingly, adumbratively, for all of his children). We come to understand why she stayed with him despite the pain and anguish that his numerous infidelities made her suffer. This was a couple who loved each other to the end and Bob Marley was unreasonably jealous of the platonic but none-the-less intimate relationships that Rita developed with other men during the weeks and months that Bob disappeared leaving her alone with, at first, their children and then later on, with some of the children he'd have with other women. She is not "above it all" and is brutally honest about her own jealousy. I usually have a hard time when believers talk about their religious experiences but Marley explains involvement in Rastafarianism with intelligence and psychological insight. The writing style is simple and unpretentious, almost as if she is a trusting friend talking to us over a cup of tea. I completely enjoyed the book as well as what I learned about Bob Marley the man, the husband, the father (a very good one).) When I finished the book I was sorry that the experience had ended. I wanted more. I wanted to continue getting to know the courageous, loving and admirable Rita Marley.

The true love of a strong independent woman
A very captivating book and very easy to read.It gives an insight into the everyday life of Reggaes biggest superstar, the high points as well as the low points and his family life.I have not become so engrossed in a book like this in many years, you know the type as you put it down you find yourself picking it up again just to read one more chapter when you know rightfully you should be doing something else. The detailed accounts voiced by his wife expressing what life was like being married to the reggae icon gives you a visualization of not just Bob Marley the singer songwriter/musician but also Bob Marley the man, husband and father. This book allows you into the world of Rita Marley not only as an established singer in her own right but as a mother, a wife and also as protector towards her husband. It is enevitable that she played a pivitol role in Bobs success as well as him being a talented individual of his own merit. She permits you to see her joy, her anguish and also her displeasure in all aspects of her life which makes this book a real exciting read.
