Resideo CQ100A1013/U 24-Inch Replacement Thermocouple for Gas Furnaces, Boilers and Water Heaters

Awesome price. My boiler usually eats one of these per year so I bought a couple as reserves.

This thermocouple was a near-perfect replacement for the original on my 26-year-old GE-branded Rheem 40 gallon water heater. The pilot light mysteriously stopped working and I saw quotes in my area for anywhere from $350-$500 for a professional wrench-turner to come out and replace it. I'm a bit intimidated when it comes to working with natural gas devices, but honestly the biggest challenge of this project was being sure there were no gas leaks during the reassembly, and if you are patient and a bit mechanically inclined then there is no reason why you can't do this yourself. In my state, California, we are phasing out gas heaters in 2027, and having to convert to all-electric means not only investing thousands in a new tank but also upgrading the house electrical system and pulling permits, which will likely require a professional installer if that work is above one's pay grade (as it is mine.) A $500 service call just to replace this little item for a 26-year-old heater? It's not an insignificant consideration and might be enough to push some people to make the switch to electric before they otherwise were prepared or needed to. If nothing else, this 10-buck part has bought me time to prepare for the inevitable switch, and it's got our hot water flowing again which makes the family very happy. The only negative I have to say is that the 24-inch model was a bit too long for my model heater; the 18-inch would have been the exact fit. If you get into the same situation, just roll up the extra copper coil and tuck it out of the way, it will still work fine.

These work fine, and fit my Williams gas wall furnace. But they only last one season. The business end burns through. Takes 20 minutes to replace each year. Have bought 5 so far.

Great value and worked as is should, it's nice to have heat in the garage again! The only negative thing to say is that what was supposed to be a 4 day shipment, took over a week! At which point I was forced to cancel and re place the order, which added an additional 3 days of shipping. I think next time I'll just spend the extra $15 and purchase locally to avoid having to deal with a freezing garage for 2 weeks!!
