Make Your Nightlife Better!
As one astro-junkie to another, you know your can never have enough scopes. So, I picked up an alt-az Smartscope. I had a tripod, but I always have to carry my scopes out to my side yard when there's a chance of actually doing some photography. Neewer has been getting into the astro game for at least 10 years now that I'm aware of, and they have always delivered quality gear at a nice price point, and if your in astronomy, you know how dear purchases can be. This is my third leveler, I use them on all my active scopes, and I have no complaints. Fit and finish are what you would expect for astro gear, heafty construction, maybe brass and anodized aluminum? In any case, you have weight and substance in your hand. It is well designed and machined, and very easy to use. No matter where I set up, I can get a level in less than 15 seconds. It's just like leveling a transit. Two hands working together, you get the technique after a night or two. They are even on my EQ mounts, even if not exactly necessary; I just like the extra sense of security of having a level mount.

Solid, Precise Leveling Base – Great for Fine Adjustments
I picked this up to use with my smart telescope, and it's been a great addition to my setup. The leveling base allows for smooth, precise adjustments, which makes a big difference when dialing in positioning — especially on uneven surfaces. The build quality is excellent. It feels sturdy and well-machined, with a nice weight that adds stability without being bulky. The knobs turn smoothly and lock securely, and the overall design is compact and easy to integrate into a tripod or mount. For the price, it offers great value, especially compared to more expensive options with similar functionality. If you're looking for a well-built, easy-to-use leveling base for photography or astronomy, this one definitely delivers.

Very well made and works well
Bought it to level the wedge for my Dwarf 3 astrocam. Works great. Should work for any Dwarf or See Star astrocam.

Great for precision 360º adjustments.
This tripod accessory is built well and solid. It does add camera height and tripod weight. It allows for more precise 360º leveling without having to fiddle with the tripod extension legs as much. Great for precision adjustments that you cannot get with a tripod alone. It takes a bit of practices to instinctively know which wheel to adjust.

Great addition for the Seestar S50.
This is a super easy leveler and much easier and better than adjusting the level by adjusting the tripod legs. It is a 4 star if you level it external to the program because you cannot see the bubble after the scope is attached and thus must level the tripod before you place the scope on the tripod. The perfect was to level obviously is in program itself and for this it is a definite 5 star. It is sturdy and very well made and a good value for the price.

Works perfect for leveling my small telescope
I bought this for leveling my small ZWO Seestar telescope on the tripod. I no longer have to fiddle with trying to adjust the tripod legs. My telescope has a built in level so I use that function and not the tiny bubble levels on the NEEWER device. Personally, the bubble levels on this leveler are so tiny they are at best only rough indicators and overall are pretty much worthless. My big problem now is that after using this several times with my telescope, I now want to add this to my regular photography gear. I don't want to keep swapping it between my telescope and camera so now I need to buy another.

Adjustment Head Wobbles with No Way To Tighten the Fit
This review is for the NEEWER Tripod Head Leveling Base Camera Leveler LP65 (ASIN B0DFQ2BRS2) as purchased in Feb 2025. I came VERY close to returning this item because of one major design problem and a few other issues. The most serous problem is that the entire leveling base wobbles by a fraction of a millimeter because of the loose fit of the adjustment bolts into the bottom of the device. The adjustment bolts need to tilt (by design and that's okay) but I think instead of a good ball and socket joint they just use a flat-ended bolt that must remain relatively loose to allow the tilt that is needed to adjust the camera level. So, once you adjust the base to a level position and "lock" the adjustment knobs the entire base and camera will be able to wobble side-to-side by something under about 0.5mm or 1/50 inch (sounds small but easily seen and felt, see the video). Now, if you don't touch anything and if the camera doesn't have any shutter/mirror "shock" then things might still be okay but you are probably using a tripod for stability and this device definitely subtracts from any stability that a tripod might provide. Actually, I've seen similar complaints/reviews on other leveling bases so this seems to be a common problem, at least on similar designs (inexpensive?) and with some other brands (not just NEEWER). Next, the bubble levels aren't very accurate and they are hard to read and for some reason seem slow to respond to changes. They might get you close to level and are perhaps better than just using your eyeballs but YMMV. As for the good points and why I've decided to keep the device, it does allow you to level your camera head and the adjustment knobs are pretty easy to use. That said, the only way you MAY be able to get an accurate level (on the tripod) is to remove your camera and ball head/pan head from the NEEWER leveling base and use a good spirit level on the top flat of the NEEWER base. The base has a fairly large diameter, rubber covered surface so you can get a good reading to that if you use a separate level (I'm using a nine-inch-long, metal, Stanley/Bostitch torpedo style level). After adjusting the NEEWER base it is pretty easy and fast to reattach the ball head to the base and the large rubber surface on the base makes that connection quite secure and tight (with a quick rotation on the mounting bolt). Of course, if you only need to be roughly level you may not need to do all of the above, but in either case you still have the slight wobble after everything is remounted to the tripod and I suppose that a slight shift in the camera level could occur if the fully assembled rig assumed a small tilt from that very same wobble or looseness in the leveling bolts (a 0.5mm wobble over a three inch or 75mm run is about 0.4 degrees in rotation).
