One year we put up the foil owl cut-outs, they worked for a year, then the birds got used to the decoys.Then a wildlife expert told us to get two of these Intimidators, put them on the windows, with those foil ribbon strips in between. ( you can find them silver strips on Amazon, too ) Apparently The Intimator has a special combo of colors that mean something just to woodpeckers and are special to their eyes and vision.Then for good measure, I got a 2.5 foot life-life plastic owl ( they are terrified of owls and this thing was scary to ME ) and hung it from the tree outside, by the same window. The Birds have NOT come back.Now we will see how we do next year, but I think that we have this battle won ! I keep scaring it off every time I heard it, but it kept coming back an hour later. Since putting this up, nothing. No pecking of the house, no drumming, no sign of it. It's built pretty solidly, and held up in some decent winds. It's fairly lightweight, but hangs down even in wind.
