I ordered this permanent hair dye in the color 5N (Light Brown). It came with everything I needed to dye my hair, the color, the 20 Volume developer, nice gloves that didn't rip, a brush with a little bush and comb on either side that was so helpful with blending, and a black silicone collapsable mixing bowl that is thick and very well-made. I'm super impressed with the color, and the entire set! Everything is really good quality. The 5N color is more of a medium brown and can be very dark brown if it's left on for a long time. I mixed the color and developer in a 1:1.5 mixture and only put in on the top 3-4" of my roots, just to get rid of these new grey hairs that are popping up and actually sticking up out of my hair, making them extremely noticeable. I've been wanting to dye my hair for a few months but was tired of my usual hair dye. This dye smells nice and isn't as harsh as others I've used over the years. With the 20 Volume developer, it did sting my scalp a bit, and since I didn't want the color to go too dark, I rinsed it out after about 15-20 minutes. It came out beautifully with lots of dimension to the color and most importantly, it covered my greys and left my hair looking and feeling great! I'm going to buy a couple more colors to do the length of my hair, which I basically balayage myself. I've been doing my own hair for decades and I highly recommend this color and this set!

Yikes. My light brown hair is now a patchy almost black color. I have shoulder length hair and used about 1/3 of the product. I threw the rest away when I saw the result. Hoping it fades asap.

This kit comes with everything you need to dye your hair. I purchased the 5N shade, and finally used it two weeks ago. The developer bowl is collapsable, which can save you space where you keep your hair supplies. The brush also has a root comb and a pick at the other end. The gloves are a size medium and durable but nothing special. There is enough hair dye to do shoulder-length and/or a little bit longer hair. The application was easy, and the smell wasn't terrible. After developing I rinsed it out and noticed how shiny my strands were. I used this color on dark blonde hair; it covered each strand and worked on my greys too! Usually hair dye dries my hair out but this stuff didn't so I am impressed. I'm very happy with this purchase.

I’ve been dying my hair at home for about 10 years, with the occasional trip to a professional. My greys are getting more resistant and demi- or semi-permanent dye no longer works. I try to dye fairly close to my natural color, with the exception that I will sometimes put in a bright blue stripe. This kit is not for beginners. There are few instructions, so you need to have an idea of what you are doing. In addition, it comes with a collapsible bowl (which is awesome!) and a comb/pick/brush to brush the dye into your hair. A squeeze bottle is easier to use when starting out. With a bowl, you have to measure your amounts, stir, and then use the brush to apply the dye to sections of your hair. This is good in a lot of ways, but it’s harder to do. The bowl holds about ½ of the dye & developer at a time, so I mixed it in two batches. Using the brush, I applied the dye to my roots starting with a grey/blue section that I had bleached & colored blue several weeks ago that has faded. Then I put the dye on the couple of places where I usually part my hair and then to the rest of the roots. Finally, I put the dye everywhere on my head and kind of massaged it into the hair (not the scalp.) The dye was on the roots for about 30 min and the rest of the hair for about 10 minutes. I ended up with a fairly even dye job and it’s a very pretty, rich color. The area that was previously bleached & dyed blue was mostly covered but does have a slight blue cast to part of it. It’s not enough to really notice if you don’t know it’s there. My hair did turn out a darker color than I expected. There is plenty of dye. I have long hair several inches below my shoulders and I have a lot of hair. There was enough dye to fully saturate it all. With most box kits, I end up with the dye being applied fairly lightly to the ends. If you have shortish hair, you can probably get two dye jobs out of this kit. The dye does have an ammonia smell. I opened the window to help keep this manageable. Once the dye had sat, I rinsed it in lukewarm water, then “washed” it using conditioner. The conditioner is not included in the kit like it is in many box kits. My hair wasn’t as soft as it usually is after dying it, but I didn’t have any more breakage or hair loss than I usually do (which is mostly because I lose some hair when I wash it.) I liked that the kit came with a really great collapsible bowl. And, I liked the rich color and complete coverage. However, I thought it was too dark and made my hair less soft than I expected. While I think this is a good kit, I think I will try something else next time.

I followed the directions completely - this kit is a complete kit to dye hair and it has a lot of product. However, for light brown, I was shocked how dark my hair came out. My hair was a very dark brown and that is not the look I wanted for myself. It took weeks for this to fade, so that is both a blessing and curse. A blessing if you are happy with the results and a curse if you are not. I had to get highlights put in to break up the dense dark color. It does cover grays, that is for sure.

Great results. Applied to beard that went from white to a medium brown (chose light brown). The instructions were unclear on leave in time, but I went with 25 minutes and achieved excellent results. It is a two part system that is great for multiple applications. I required very little to completely cover my beard, so I suspect I have months of applications making this a great value. There is a slight salon type smell, but not overwhelming. There was no skin irritation. The collapsible bowl is much better than expected. The brush is different than shown, but that is ok because it is actually better. It is double sided. One side has a bristle brush and the opposite side has a plastic comb.

I didn’t end up using all of this kit, but I used the toner and the brushes and I am so happy with them! My friends and I were all dying our hair one night and it was so handy that all of this came in one kit. We didn’t have to go running around to the beauty store to get multiple different items since this has everything in it. Absolutely recommend this product!

First things first. This is a great, professional quality hair color. I ordered it mainly looking to cover my early stage graying hair and I was able to achieve great results with that and used only about 1/3 of the cream and developer for my medium length (just below shoulder) hair so I have plenty still left for future touchups. I feel that the product was reasonably gentle on my hair, did not have an overly offensive smell, and the typical scalp burn though present was not nearly as intense as with other products I have tried. Now here is where Mohair lost a star unfortunately. 1. Instructions are absolutely terrible. Printed in the tiniest font, instructions are basically nonexistent, lacking clarity, details, and some very key points. After struggling for about 20-30 minutes and googling a bit, I had to make some decisions and just go for it (see below what worked for me). 2. One big dilemma was whether to mix color and developer by volume or weight. Since no measuring guidelines or tools were included in the package I decided to go with weight and used my kitchen scale. 3. Next dilemma is how much of the color mix to create. There are no instructions of how much product one would require for the various hair lengths. 4. There is no color swatch whatsoever, so it is a total guessing game as far as what exactly your original hair color is what results you would expect based off that using 5N. Thankfully I was mainly looking to cover grays and knew that starting out with medium brown I would remain somewhere on the brown spectrum, while exactly what shade of brown did not matter a whole lot. Based on my interpretation of instructions I expected to go a shade lighter, so from medium brown to light brown. Instead to my surprise I kind of shifted slightly to darker brown. Interestingly, my color result visually does match what I am seeing on their Amazon listing photo, except they call it "light brown" while most people, myself included, would consider it "dark brown" I am pretty sure. Thankfully I did achieve absolutely perfect gray hair coverage. RECIPE: Here is was worked for me. To color my medium length, early stage graying, medium brown hair to 5N light brown (their color reference) I zeroed out the included cup on my digital kitchen scale, added 30ml cream, zeroed out and added 45ml developer. Mixed thoroughly and applied to hair. Kept for 30 minutes, then rinsed. I now have 2/3 of my unmixed cream and developer still available for future touchups, making this bundle quite economically priced. I am very pleased overall, just really wish the instructions were better. I think this coloring kit could be 5 stars in the hands of an experienced professional who knows color swatches by heart and colors people's hair day and night. 4 stars for a really flexible non-professional person like myself looking to mostly just cover grays. If you are a non-professional user looking for very particular shades and results - be prepared for a guessing game and a possible disappointment, likely 3 stars or less.
