Otoké Horticulture says "good value" on the Hannah 98331 SoilTest meter
We recommend it to container growers to provide direct feedback on nutrient levels in the root zone.We have used the HI98331 in our commercial Cannabis consulting work and found it reliable and up to abuse. While use of Saturated Media Extract methods are best for accuracy and consistency in soil EC measurements, instant read direct measurement of media EC allows low overhead monitoring of your plants.

EC meter seemed useless
In a sense this EC meter seemed useless because the readings were NOT consistent and varied widely depending upon the moisture content of the soil. FYI... tested the meter in our indoor greenhouse in 15 gallons containers with our custom soil mix of Coco, compost, peat, pearlite, etc. -- basically, soil-less which may have something to do with the strange readings. Our most consistent readings were obtained by using instructions found on the Manufactures website where you take a soil sample and mix with distilled water... 2 parts water to 1 part soil. Stir, let sit for about 5 - 15 min's then test using a EC/PH pen designed for water use. This process appeared to be more accurate. Blessings :-)

I have several hanna meters and they work well. This one is no exception. However... Unlike all my other hanna meters this one is NOT water proof!! Learned the hard way that the calibration adjuster hole in the side lets water in like crazy. Had to replace the batteries that corroded almost instantly as well as moisture on the inside of the display.
