Because of its design water will flow through the shower mat but it will catch hairs. Its is safe to put over the plug hole as it wont restrict the water flow. The mat has a non slip base so it is fine to use in the shower or bath. To clean you can rinse with the shower or wash in the washing machine on a cool wash. **Q: Do you have to lift this after use or can it stay down until it's washed? I don't want to take it up after every shower!** A: You don’t need to lift the mat after every shower, but would advise rinsing it thoroughly even though it’s treated to resist bacteria and mould. I personally have a rail in my shower, I rinse the mat after use and hang it up to drain. **Q: How do you remove hair caught in the mat?** A: I put mine through a 30 degree wash in the washing machine. As I see it this removes soap residue, hair & is hygienic. **Q: Is this mat comfortable to sit on in the bath?** A: It is designed for showering so if you were going to sit in the bath and shower it would be fine and would provide a non slip surface. If you want to bath then it is not suitable as the mat will start to float in deep bath water. Get a mat with suction cups for a having a bath as the suction cups will stop the mat from floating.
