Solid, well-designed precision grinder
I upgraded to the TIMEMORE Chestnut C3S PRO from one of the lighter-weight stainless steel type hand grinders because the grind was uneven and the wrench-style handle was always slipping off when I was trying to grind and hitting me. Although I could have purchased an electric model for the same price, I really enjoy the experience and ritual of grinding my own beans for morning pour over coffee dripped in a Chemex. Gets the body moving and uses natural energy! This unit is impressive. It's built like a tank with the precision of a Nikon lens! It feels like you are assembling high end camera equipment as you screw on the threaded aluminum alloy base. The handle sits solidly on top so it will not slip off. The foldable handle works smoothly though I don't have much use for that in the home kitchen. The textured base makes it easy to grip and feels like a the zoom on a camera lens. Beans grind very quickly and smoothly. It works better for me when hand held in the air rather than resting it on a surface. The grind quality is excellent...consistent in size with very detailed increments available on the dial. Although the instructions recommend using 13-16 clicks to get pour over grind, I found that was too fine and clogged up the Chemex. I have settled at 21 which drips well and delivers good results for my beans. The finer settings for espresso result in extremely smooth and even grinds. I read reviews of previous models which were generally positive but I was scared away by the numerous reports and photos of the composite plastic top cracking (the only plastic part in those models). The manufacturer took that feedback and now uses aluminum alloy for the top on this new model. So the entire unit is made of some form of alloy or steel. No plastic anywhere. This thing is built to survive World War III. The one negative and it's not a big one which is the trade off that comes with being built "like a tank" is it is heavy. Weighs about a pound. This does not impeded using it, in fact it might help keep it stable. But it feels a bit excessive especially in how thick the body walls are. For those who want to take it on the go, it will add weight to your load. If you are committed to hand grinding and appreciate a finely instrumented and constructed tool and have a bit of cash to spare, I highly recommend this grinder.

For the Ritual and Quality
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I like the ritual of grinding one cup's worth of coffee that I am about to brew, and I have had an OLD grinder. I heard this was a solid product. It is solidly built. Grind quality: Consistent Less than a minute

First manual grinder - impressed
Other than a few parts of the handle (knob & bumper) this grinder is all metal. I grind for 1 cup of French press in the morning. It is pretty easy for me to turn the grinder and it takes less than 1 minute. I have it set to 10 clicks right now The instructions say to turn the grind adjustment clockwise until it stops and then count the clicks counterclockwise - it's pretty straightforward. Once you have it set I think it is easy to tweak it depending on how your coffee turns out. The grounds look much more consistent than my blade grinder and the coffee tastes much better. I use a brush to clean it after use. I like that the handle folds to it takes up less space in the cupboard. I read on Reddit that you don't have to do a deep cleaning (i.e., take it apart) so I'm avoiding it unless absolutely necessary. Very happy with it.

Very consistent, though one or two kinks.
Let me start by saying that I am an entry-level espresso enjoyer. I don't own a $600 machine, and I haven't spent double that in accessories like some folks have, but I could see that as a possibility considering my experiences thus far with this grinder and my Stilosa 15. If you're looking for an excellent, entry-level grinder, I find it difficult to find another for this price point. While dialing in is a constant process depending on multiple factors, like coffee age and roast level, this grinder generally allows for easy adjustment. However, while trying to dial in between the 2 suggested grind levels and, in my experience, the 3-4 that you can get away with if you're lucky, isn't very precise for getting the best possible shot. That being said, for $90, the Chestnut CS3 PRO is a steal for a grinder capable of as consistent and as fine as a grind as it can give you. If you're looking for an enthusiast-level grinder with NASA-grade consistency, then I'm sure you're probably not even reading this review. But if you're hoping to start your journey into making espresso and making it cheaper than the cafe while blowing their quality away, then this grinder is for you.

No complaints after several months
We've been using this daily for several months and it does the job. The grind seems uniform and the amount it holds is perfect. I never make more than 20 grams of coffee at a time and it doesn't seem to take too long to grind. The handle is comfortable too.

Great tool, not for French Press.
Truly a fine tool, makes my french press grounds to the perfect consistency. The volume, however, is truly tragic. It takes about 2.5 loads to make a good 12oz cup of French Press coffee. Why they would sell this then with a french press setting is... well I frankly don't know, it was a crime. I have been robbed and must now buy a grinder with volume sufficient to the task at hand. It is sad to do, because the machinery here was so nice, but this is useless to me.

Gran primer molino
