Hi we have hollow walls too but faced no problem installing them.

Can the shades be changed , I would like another colour ?

Yes, provided the chosen shade is not too big. The shades are removable so you could fit different shades if they have the same shade fitting (the larger fitting which is found on lights with a screw in type bulb rather than the smaller bayonet type). When the lights arrive the shades are not fitted, you fit them yourself, a simple job. Hope this helps
