Question 1

I'm not getting what this is. A box of words? And you work the words into a story? Couldn't you do that with a dictionary?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but I have found this box to be way more fun for the kids. I have my 3 girls each pick 2 cards and they get so excited not only picking the cards, but waiting to hear for their respective word as I tell a story. Yes, you could do this with a dictionary, but it would be really hard because most words in the dictionary either wouldn't be fun or funny to use in a story, or no one would know what the particular word means. All the words in this box are easy to understand, and fun for the kids to hear about.

Question 2

I have the original Storymatic and use it for writing prompts and improv games with my students. What is the difference between the two sets?

Accepted Answer

Hi David,Thanks for your question. The quick answer is that Storymatic Kids is the all-ages version. It's like a G-rated movie that everyone can enjoy. The longer answer is that physically, the Kids cards are thicker and brighter, with rounded edges (for small hands). The font is cleaner and a little larger (for early readers, and ESL). There are 20 blank cards so you can make up your own content. Booklet-wise, you probably noticed that the Classic booklet is mostly about writing activities. The Kids booklet has that, but it also has some kinesthetic (improv) and visual (drawing) activities. Conceptually, Kids is consistently upbeat. For example, Classic has "something is wrong with the water." That can be a pretty serious problem. Kids has "mermaids in swimming pool," which is not quite as serious. Classic has "large wild animal." Kids has "befriended by hippo."I hope this helps! If you want to talk further, please don't hesitate to be in touch.Best,Brian (the guy who created The Storymatic)

Question 3

Will someone who is on the spectrum enjoy playing this game? In particular, someone who is very word wise but isnt applying herself in creativewriting

Accepted Answer

Yes. I think anyone can participate in, benefit from and enjoy playing with this game regardless of their level of proficiency since it encourages precisely that: creativity.

Question 4

what age children is this game for?

Accepted Answer

Hi Holly,The age on the box says "5 and up," and it really does go all the way up. It's fun for kids of all ages, young and old alike. For children who aren't readers or writers yet, parents can use the cards to tell them stories.I hope this helps!Best,Brian (the guy who makes Storymatic)
