No, I clean and reuse. I have two (one for home and one for travel) and they last for years. I have tried other brands, but they don't compare. I use an UV cleaner for my toothbrush and tongue cleaner.

Plastic. Plastic always breaks unless it is very thick at the stress points. Unfortunately, this brand is very thin at the major stress points, which is the base of each arm of the Y. When you apply force to lever it against your tongue, it can easily break. It is hard plastic, but it is not "strong" as some have stated. It would cost them probably one cent more to make it with thicker Y arms, but they plan on it breaking and you coming back to buy another one, which is what I'm having to do now. I haven't been able to find one that is thick where it needs to be to prevent breakage, but when someone does start making it that way, I will buy that one instead and that manufacturer will likely corner the market.

It is personal, however, as far as the quality goes, these are high quality ones too.
