I used a different brand of air monitor before which was much harder to use and maybe a bit less accurate. It also connects to see a worldwide network of readings that I can see on a map and use to assess real time air quality in another neighborhood to decide to go there or not - great during the CA fire season when you have asthma! Downside is just that it does not measure some things: PM10, PM1 or smaller, VOCs, ozone. I generally find that under normal conditions PM2.5 gives me a general feel of the dust levels in the air, but of course some things can slip through that measurement size. Of all of those additional measurement abilities I'd most want a VOC meter added. The discontinued air monitor I used to use also had a VOC meter and I did find that useful. Sometimes I feel nauseous or get headaches due to high VOCs. Sometimes the CO2 also rises when the VOCs rise (because it's due to not enough ventilation/fresh air coming in), but not always. So being able to detect times of low CO2 but high VOCs was helpful for assessing the health of the indoor environment and changing things to lower the VOCs. I thought this was going to be a huge disadvantage, though, and it turns out to only be relevant in rare situations, because the CO2 almost always tracks with VOCs anyways, so CO2 serves as a proxy for VOCs just fine most of the time. Overall, I love this thing! Love it's clear display, accuracy, and simplicity! I keep it on all the time, usually without pairing it since the screen is so clear even from across a room that I don't need it on my phone to see what it's telling me about my current air quality. It actually alerted us to a mold issue. But as Gian said, you won’t know it’s mold or dust or pollen or any other particle about 1-5 microns. I don’t think this thing detects pm 10 well but dunno. Mainly pm 2.5. The only way to detect mold specifically is to use the kits that you send off to a lab or hire someone to come to your house **Q: What kind of battery does the device require, or is it an internal (non replaceable) battery?** A: Jokes on me. They don't answer emails but they did send me a replacement unit for my one with the failed battery even though I was a week or two past the one year mark. **Q: Isn't there a weatherproof outdoor sensor accessory? Your room can have high CO2 and still read low AQI. My machine kept saying that the AQI in my attic was zero, tho I had high concentrations of CO2. Many modern air quality detectors look at other facets of air quality, and I think that this monitor is missing some of those modern innovations. (E.g. HCOC, VOC, PM10). It’s AQI only reflects PM2.5 which makes you wonder why they report on both and not just PM2.5. It’s confusing. The UI is nice. I dont like that it uses a dated charging cable. At this price point I would expect USB-C which is today’s standard.
