Yet another brilliant Encyclopedia from Search Press this book covers the basics from using ready made findings to making your own, wrapping beads, creating chains, knitting and crochet with wire, twisting techniques, construction with wire & filling in shapes, rings, etc. moving on to more advanced wire techniques and a few basic steps for silversmithing. Each section has very clear step by step photographs and instuctions which are easy to follow. I would recommend it for beginners and those with limited experience of wireworke to expand your techniques. Encyclopedia of Wire Jewellery

I love this book, as suggested by the 5 star rating! I have half a dozen books about making jewellery but this one is my favourite. I quite often find that books like this are full of designs, but a lot of the designs are ones I think "I'll never make that" or "yuck that's horrible!". But this book is full of designs I'd love to make and the ones I have made so far have turned out really well! The instructions are really clear and easy to follow. I'd recommend this to beginner jewellery makers or people looking for more inspiration or to improve the range of techniques they know (e.g. making different types of necklace or making rings etc).

I am a beginner to jewellery making and decided to order this book after seeing a number of good reviews. I am really happy with the purchase - it is a little on the pricey side but is very informative in terms of what tools and other pieces to buy when starting out. It also provides lots of good ideas from your very first piece of jewellery to further down the line when you want to experiment with different techniques a bit more. Definitely a must buy for any jewellery making newbies! However, like other reviewers I was disappointed that a number of the examples shown in the book do not give any explanation as to how you would go about making them.

This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to learn wirework tecniques. It has chapters covering different aspects of wire work. The explanations are clear and backed up with diagrams and coloured pictures. It would be suitable for beginners or those who want to further develop their skills.

I am totally mesmerised by this great instruction book. Beautifully presented with great photographs . It is a pleasure to learn from this particular book and I would certainly recommend it.

Borrowed initially through my local library service, this is such an excellent book to keep on the bookshelf by my jewellery workbench, or beside the bed to plan my projects. It is thorough, with lots of good advice and clear,information on a range of metal working techniques. In the end, I just had to have my own copy!

I have been making jewellery for a few years but was always a bit frightened of using write because I didn't know how to. I got this book or at the library and it was so good I bought my own copy. Anyone interested in starting to work with wire would definitely benefit from this book. Has numerous techniques and styles and is a great introduction to write and a great reference book.

It was my fault. Wires not my scene. But a good book otherwise. Usefull for the subject it is the title.

Es un libro imprescindible para todos aquellos que quieren dedicarse al mundo de la joyería artesanal. Con una amplia descripción de las herramientas, los alambres y las técnicas utilizadas en la fabricación y el montaje de las piezas. Es como un manual del estudiante al que puedes acudir siempre que se te olvida una cosa. Para mi, aprender todas las técnicas es fundamental.

In diesem Buch geht es um Basistechniken, Herstellen von Verbindungselementen, von dekorativen Formen und Zwischenteilen, Verzierung von Perlen und Schmucksteinen (auch ohne Lochung), Herstellung von Verschlüssen, Ketten aus Biegeringen. Es wird gehäkelt, gestrickt und gezwirbelt. Alles aus und mit Schmuckdraht. In der Einführung werden die Werkzeuge vorgestellt, welche benötigt werden. Mit Bild und Kurzbeschreibung. Als nächstes werden Drahtsorten vorgestellt und wie man diese für seine Schmuckelemente auswählt. Klasse finde ich auch die Tabelle der Drahtstärken in gauge und mm, welche auch noch am Ende unter Informationen enthalten ist, sowie eine Ringgrößentabelle. Sehr gut gefällt mir, dass bei jedem neuen Thema zuerst eine Übersicht mit Bildern und Erklärungen abgebildet ist, was auf den nachfolgenden Seiten behandelt wird. Bei den Bildern der dargestellten Schmuckelemente ist auch immer die Seite angegeben, wo diese zu finden sind. Die Erklärungen sind Schritt für Schritt mit Bildern und Texten beschrieben, welche auch gut nachzuarbeiten sind. Zwischendurch gibt es gute Tipps, die deutlich markiert dargestellt sind. Es gibt jede Menge nachzubasteln bzw. Anregungen für: Ketten, Ringe, Ohrringe, -stecker, Armreifen, -bänder, Broschen, gefüllte Formen, alles in verschiedenen Techniken. Im letzten Kapitel gibt es eine Einführung in Silberschmiedearbeiten, welches mich so neugierig gemacht hat, dass ich mich gleich an der Volkshochschule für die Schmuckwerkstatt angemeldet habe. Da man dazu doch einige spezielle Werkzeuge benötigt wie z. B. Lötwerkzeuge, probiere ich es da erst mal aus. Ebenso lernt man im letzten Kapitel, wie man Metalldrähte einfärbt: Silber oxidieren und Grünspan auf Kupfer. Zum Schluss ist noch eine Galerie von Schmuckstücken von verschiedenen Künstlern. Sehr schön anzusehen und toll für Inspirationen. Insgesamt ein sehr informatives Buch. Die Bilder sind zwar etwas klein, dafür ist aber sehr viel drin für den Preis. Fazit: Auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert für Anfänger und auch Fortgeschrittene. Man sollte aber etwas Englisch können bzw. das Buch gibt es auch in Deutsch: Die Enzyklopädie der Drahtschmuck Techniken: Ein Kompendium aus Schritt-für-Schritt-Anleitungen für Schmuck aus Draht

After reading several reviews I was sceptical about this book, but decided to buy anyway. I noticed a lot said the images are to small, I did not did this to be a problem. As the small images only showed simple steps that did not need anything larger. I also found most of the negative feedback misunderstanding as is is not a project book and the completed projects were there to inspire not projects. Once mastering the skills I would find that making intriguing projects easy and original, not copies. So make your own mind up, but I found this book a great addition to the collection I already have.
