A very effective and easy way to add a final razor edge to kitchen knives
As so many five star reviews attest, this is proving to be a very effective knife sharpener. We use it as intended, which is on already quite sharp knives to add a final razor edge, a process called honing, I believe. It works marvellously well, especially thanks to the clever angle guide built into the handle. For the price we paid, the quality shines through. It is certainly a solid and very well made product. Well done to the manufacturer and to Amazon for making it available.

Good steel, for beginners and experts.
High quality item and works well, I've been a chef for 25 years and used many different brands. I have a large knife collection, all quality gear and I look after my kit. One thing I need to say about this product: steels aren't to sharpen knives, they are for honing! Sharpening is done with a whetstone when the knife is dull beyond honing and will grind metal off the blade to give a sharper edge. Every few months or so for me, if that, and even if I'm using the knife daily. Honing can be done hourly and doesn't take metal off the knife; it just knocks the structure of the knife edge back into alignment giving you a razor to work with if done right. Knowing the difference between sharpening and honing is important; I learned this late in my career and have some seriously eroded and unusable £100+ knives to prove it. So its a honing steel rather than a sharpener... Just saying. Anyway, the angled guides on the handle make this steel easy to use, from beginner to grumpy old chef you will just get it and actually like it because the results are consistently spot on. The steel was inexpensive and cost less than a fifth of many of my knives but I am impressed and definitely recommend it. There's no sign of wear after a year of heavy use. So, if you're on the fence, as an experienced chef I would highly recommend this steel, I got one for my mum too 😁

Does the job
The box it came in could have fitted 15 knife sharpeners in it! Ridiculous and wasteful, come on Amazon you usually do better!

Best in class honing steel.
The best honing rod I’ve ever used. Though I don’t need a guide, it makes it easier to use for beginners and is extremely convenient. It’s very well made and the steel has held up extremely well, it is still flawless. It’s size means it’s perfect for any knife, no matter how big or small. having tried the ceramic version I do find the steel to win when it comes to western knives. Of course this is no replacement for sharpening with a whetstone but it’s incredible daily maintenance to keep the edge on your knife for much longer. An essential for the few that care about their knives.

Would 100% recommended
A heavy high quality item which literally sharpened my knives really well. Long enough to sharpens bigger knives. Grips in the hand properly too.

Very aggresive when sharpening
This steel can take a very dull knife and in a few strokes, bring back an edge. It is much more aggresive with material removal than other steels I've used. It works very well.
