good portable soldering alternative to butane
I usually keep my JB pyropen handy for field soldering, but someone had one of these at field day this year, fixing the dc jack on his SDR. That was my first time seeing a usb-powered soldering iron, and I was surprised it had the power needed. But it's not USB-A, it's USB-C, and has a useful power delivery. He just had it plugged into a USB power bank, and it worked well. Electronic temp adjustment, and fast heat-up. So I got one for myself. Comes with a variety of tips that are buil onto the heating end, so when you change tips you're also changing heater. This places the heater in better contact with the tip, and they warm up almost instantly. Like you turn it on, and within 2 seconds the rosin that was left on the tip is already smoking. There are a few different kits available, but this one comes with several tips/heaters. a chunky AC power adapter (that works great to charge phones too) as well as a hyper-flexible USB-C power cable. It can also be powered directly off 12 volts via the included barrel adapter, though I don't know how that affects the power output. Honestly, just the inclusion of that nice 65w USB A/C power adapter alone makes this kit a great value. Comes with a cover for the tip too so you can close it up and put it away immediately after use instead of having to wait for it to cool. The super-flexible cord is a nice plus, it gives me better fine control of the tip than any of my other irons that have stiffer cords on them. I also like the rubber grip on the end, it's very comfortable. I was a little concerned about what looked like proprietary heater/tip units so I looked around, and was satisfied to find several vendors selling replacement tips. I ended up buying a set of replacement tips to have as spares just in case. My set didn't come with a travel case though so I ended up packing it all in a small iPad mini box for now. That's the one thing I'd change - include a fitted travel case for it, since it's being sold as a field soldering iron.

Great little iron!
At first I was very disappointed, some of the issues were my fault, and the rest were me not being used to a portable soldering iron I guess. But I just kept using it even when my other soldering irons were just as accessable. Now it's my favorite, actually going to buy the other one with I think 100w, maybe I'm off but anyway supposed to be a upgrade. With 5 tips It's actually priced well, with a very nice c type cable. And DC power supply. Yes, power supply it's not really being used as a charger, I thought these were portable as in works without the supply but no, that supply comes with or you don't use. But the flexible c type they provide doesn't necessarily fade away while using it, but it's hardly noticed while using it, until it falls in front of your view right as start to use it. But I have the same issue with my 5 other solder machines. If I just had to criticize one thing, it would have to be how you change the tips. I didn't like unscrewing the retainer cap while hot, then trying to get the other tip out. Making sure you didn't set it on something that burns. I think maybe a different type of tip, or something would be better. I got used to it though. I could have waited yes, but that's why I have 5 soder machine setup on my desk, don't like to wait and I do change my tip depending on what needs to be done. Great solder pen type machine, love it. Think you'd like it to. Just remember give it time. Once you get used to it. I think my soldering had improved.

Nice little Iron but don't trust the power adapter if unbranded
Soldering iron is great for my needs. The reason I knocked off a star was because the power adapter that came with my order wasn't branded in any way and doesn't even say what it's output rating is anywhere on it. Also there are no safety certification markings which means I will never plug anything into it to even test it. One other thing, the USB-C to barrel jack plug feels like it came with a cheap childs toy, not something meant to handle 65 watts or more of power going through it. Not taking a chance of testing that either. The USB-C to USB-C cable is very nice quality and fully checks out using my cable tester. Cable could be a little longer but gets the job done.

Died after 2 months with little use. V. disappointing.
I bought an HS-01 Soldering iron, blue color, from Amazon on January 9 and received it January 12, 2026. From day one it had an annoying short in the usb-c power port, I had to pull the USB cord out a tiny bit and jiggle it a little into just the right position for the iron to turn on. Today, March 15, it stopped working entirely, suddenly, during normal use. It simply will not turn on any more. I have tried every possible troubleshooting step, including verifying that the USB cable and charger are still good. The problem is definitely the iron. Does this product have any kind of warranty? I have only had it for 2 months and haven't used it much, and now it's dead. It's very disappointing.

Must have for work in the field
Inexpensive, heats up fast, easy to use. Very nice quality, and perfect size for a field technician for storage. Thinking of buying one for my home.
