Keep it at your work place for a โmental health breakโ Read it in small sips - like fine wine - over 6-12 months. The one-star critics are unfair. One criticizes the book for being unscholarly. (It is not meant to be high scholarship! Read Alexander Popeโs essay on criticism then apologize to the author for your poor criticism scholarship.) The other critic confuses the audio version with the paperback. Another literary faux pas. This book is designed for the average English speaking reader who is interested to learn timeless lessons in dealing with the universal and inevitable vicissitudes to which Man is subjected. It is a survival manual for thinking people who want short pithy and profound advice on adapting to the daily assaults on peace of mind. That is why the front cover reads โAdaptedโ and โContemporaryโ Each letter addresses a common problem of Man and clearly lends the kind of advice a wise grandfather would present humbly but generously to a loved one. Each letterโs subject is clearly listed in the Table of Contents for easy reference and can be both read and understood within minutes. It is meant to elicit truth through provocative posits & personal contemplation, not pedantic nagging. It succeeds. Review: Good - It is as the retailer has said

Needs editing
I beleive the book needs to be prefessionally edited. There are words missing from sentences such as "A great man is one uses standard dishes . . ." should probably read "A great man is one who uses standard dishes . . ." p.22. This is not the first sentence that appears to be missing a word. It is distractin and leaves me questioning the accuracy of the translation.

This philosophy that has the duty of protecting us. To live free of fear or worry.
Profound. This ancient translated text eloquently and precisely points out the obvious to us in our daily lives. Yes, all the things we take for granted every single day and do not spare a thought for. If you truly want to turn your life from an unhappy existence which is the common fact today for us humans into a natural life full of living, then this is for you. We are all slaves. We are slaves to what we think are "Pleasures". When in fact these pleasures give us temporary fulfilment but the will make us unhappy and will shorten our lives. One example would be the food we eat. We all know the food we eat is toxic but do we stop or even moderate our consumption? No. Do we even think about the food as we put in our mouths? No. Consume consume consume. That is all we a re good for. Life time customers of poisons and we die younger than nature intended. Seneca literally examines all the problems facing humanity and points them out in a charming, eloquent and polite manner and it really does make you stop and think. These letters are like a daily diary of this man and his observations that are plain to see but we as humans do even notice them. Fascinating. I highly recommend this if you want to live a life full of living. Not existing, doing what you are by your brain, consuming all manner of toxic poisons that are advertised and sold to us as things that are good for us and will improve our lives. Non of these promise to make you happy, but they keep us slaves until the day die we die....prematurely of course, due to poisons and toxins we have consumed. Get this book and wake up. There are grammatical and spelling errors but these are minor compared the wealth of knowledge encapsulated within these letters.

Great Edition
On top of being the famously aclaimed letters of Seneca, for me this edition has two special features. First, this is not just a "selection" of his writings, this is a whole volume with all of them. The second is that the printing and the quality of the paper are fantastic. So for those of us that love writing and folding pages this is an absolutely win. Compared to other editions, maybe the only pitfall of this one is that there is no introduction or more dicussion about the letters. But it's fine. That general knowledge can be found on internet.

Robot Stoic
This book is crammed with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, as though compiled by a retarded chat bot. Weak.
