My husband wanted this to chop the smaller bits of wood for our woodburner and thinks it's great. He's completely in love with it because it's very sharp and effective, but light and easy to use. He's even made a small mount for it, to keep the blade from getting blunt. He's surrounded by techie things but this is his favourite

I bought this axe to serve as a wood carving tool rather than as a mere "chopper". Various green woodworkers recommend it as being as highly capable as a true carving axe - functionally near to carving axes costing up to 10X the price. But it needs refining to make it so.In other words, it lacks the refinements of the Swedish carving axes .... but the handle is easily modified to suit carving grips and the blade can be re-ground with hand files or mechanised grinder to give edge bevel profiles highly suitable for greenwood carving.After regrinding and sharpening the blade, as well as rasping and spokeshaving the handle to suit a "choked" carving grip, I've now used the axe for some weeks without needing to do more than lightly re-hone the edge after some hours of carving work. I'd recommend it to anyone needing a medium weight axe for multiple purposes - as long as you're prepared to do the above-mentioned modifications yourself to suit those purposes.If you just want a chopping axe, it'll do as-is, although it will still need an initial sharpening.

I was very pleased with my axe, but after only 1/2 an hours use the handle split. So now not very happy and I am not sure who to go back to, to complain.

Extremely nice hatchet , well designed and ergonomic, strong handle can take a lot of abuse. With around 10/20 minutes on a whetstone it was biteing into the wood nicely , I've used this to clear brush and fell some smaller oak and birtch trees and with very little maintenance provides quality results , I highly recommend this for a camping trip as it snugly fits into a backpack. And provides excellent quality for money and would make a great Father's day gift . The blade is large and nearly bearded providing a small margin for slipping or sloppy chopping action , I recommend this product highly.

The design and feel of this axe is great, but the edge actually had flat spots on it. The grind was very poor and I had to spend an hour (sharpening by hand, using files, etc.) to get it into working order. It has since held a decent edge, so the steel seems to be a decent quality.

From a world leader in tool manufacture, this heavy felling axe is well made, well balanced, and represents a must-have for any woodsman. The handle is of genuine USA Hickory, well fitted and secured by decent wedges. As with most axes bought from most stores, whilst the bit is double bevelled, it does not come with a supplied edge, this has to be fashioned by the buyer. Do not be put off by this, for twenty minutes with a decent file will produce an edge suitable for most applications, bearing in mind that too fine an edge on any felling axe, invites peening, and cannot be maintained for any significant length of time. This axe holds a reasonable cutting edge very well, and the tool will last a lifetime.

I ordered this product knowing full well that I had seen reviews of it turning up blunt. No worries I thought I have whetstones. 30 min later I have a nice sharp axe.I was using this to chip away at some small conifer trunks when the top of the handle snapped off sending the head careering and give me a little trim on the arm.At closer inspection this isn't a solid wood handle, there's a sheet of MDF that runs through the middle. Likely the reason the handle split.Clearly a safety hazard and not fit for purpose, you can't chain manufacture wood handles like this without being aware of the probability of it snapping. On an axe, that's clearly a nono.1/10 For sharpness1/10 For durability1/ 10 for overall value.Stay safe and pick something better than this.

Spaltleistung ok.Made in China.Kopf rau.Abwarten, wie lange der Stiel hält.Mit über 35€ scheint sie mir relativ teuer. Dafür bekommt man auch gute deutsche/europäische Ware - natürlich nicht Prämiumqualität.Update nach der ersten nennenswerten Nutzung:Stiel neben dem Kopf massiv eingerissen. Geht zurück.

Auf der Suche nach einem kleinen Beil bin ich über dieses der Firma Bahco gestolpert.Von Bahco besitze ich bereits ein Messer und eine Klappsäge die im Set angeboten werden und mich beide überzeugt haben.Positiv fand ich die Gummi Schutzkappe für die Schneide.Am Köpfende ist eine Aufhängeöse angebracht die Teil des Sicherungskeils ist.Das Beil kam mit einer ungleichmäßig stumpfen Schneide bei mir an.Das was mir erst beim schärfen auffiel ist, dass die Schneide nicht in einer Flucht zum Steil des Beils ist. Also scheint der Kopf des Beils nicht präzise auf den Stiel aufgesetzt worden zu sein.Zu dem gegenwärtigen Preis von 21€ inakzeptabel für mich.Insgesamt macht das Beil keinen besonders hochwertigen Eindruck auf mich.

What a great price for a tool of such high quality. It came relatively sharp. Fits well in your hand with or without gloves.
