For those of you who downgrade it for its intensity ... a little education is in order. St Elmo's is a steak house in Indianapolis which is famous for this shrimp cocktail ... the entire purpose is to be mind-numbingly intense ... an experience that will give you tingles in parts of your brain that you had no clue were there ... clearly you will believe that you will *never* have to invest in sinus medicine for as long as you live. In this restaurant, if you take a bite and NOT think your ears are on fire ... you might reasonably demand your money back : THAT'S THE POINT!!! I have been trying ever since to come up with something to try to recreate that intensity at home : heat and flavor ... and could not do it. When a friend brought me a bottle ... I was sorely disappointed - for whatever reason that bottle had next to nothing intensity (I didn't check the expiration date). When I saw it on Amazon ... I figured what the heck ... maybe the one he brought was bad ... and I am glad that I did!!! The bottled stuff is not necessarily as intense as the stuff at the restaurant ... but it is BY FAR the best rendition of shrimp cocktail I have had SINCE the restaurant. When I got it ... I hedged my bet and bought a jar of Atomic Horseradish as well ... and when I added a bit of that to the St Elmo's, I dare say that I got about as close to the restaurant flavor as I could remember. The bottle by itself is the bomb ... adding the Atomic made it ... well, you get it!!! :-D Appended Mar2019 - Please be aware as I alluded to above, the intensity does drop off over time. I ended up buying a case and even after splitting with friends and giving some away, it took several months to use it up. The intensity drops off even in bottles that are not opened (I refrigerated all of them). It is still the best cocktail sauce flavor even after the intensity goes away, but if you are looking for that impact, its gotta be fresh.

Love this cocktail sauce. I’ve had st Elmo’s shrimp cocktail at the resteraunt, I’m from California and was very pleased to be able to purchase this and make the same cocktail at home! I love horseradish, and this is very, very HOT!!! Not for the faint of heart. This is the sauce that makes you stop for a second and go whoa!!!! It will clear your sinuses in seconds. Try it out.

This year my husband and I conducted a search for the best cocktail sauces, sampling over a dozen brands, in three categories: spicy, medium, and mild. This was HANDS DOWN the winner for spicy! It's actually a bit too spicy for us, but when we mix it with some mild, the rest of the delicious ingredients in the St. Elmo make the flavor perfect! We're 65 and 75 y/o, so maybe that's why we prefer it less spicy these days. If you prefer truly spicy cocktail sauce, it's worth trying St. Elmo. Once we narrowed it to spicy, medium, and mild winners, we awarded our #1 Blue Ribbon above the other two sauces to St. Elmo. It's that tasty, we just have to tone it down with some mild, but it's so worth doing!

Years ago I was lucky enough to dine at St Elmo’s in Indianapolis. One of the Top 3 best restaurants I’ve tried around the world. Ordered a shrimp cocktail to share with the table which included their world famous cocktail sauce. It was everything friends had told me! Just found and immediately ordered their sauce last week on Amazon. Shipped directly from the restaurant. The cocktail sauce brought back every positive memory I had the first time I tasted it. You will not be disappointed!!

This coctail sauce blew me away with the taste, but the spicy closed my throat. Almost had to call hit the medic tag...ha ha. seriously, it is so hot and spicy that I had to gulp water in between dips. Made me a little upset I couldn't eat as much as I wanted because it was too hot for me. Little dips and big water gulps. Taste is amazing, though. I hope I can build my tolerance for all things hot....
