Double checked with a good old fashioned knock test and good to start drilling holes for a TV wall bracket. The way stud finder work is it finds differences in densities. So in theory a cable would cause the density behind the wall to change so I would think it can find it. What it won't tell you for sure is what the 'thing' behind the stud wall is - it only knows there is 'something'. **Q: Any success on locating studs with walls that are double boarded? Most of my flat is and my current detector is useless.** A: The ProSensor 710+ does have exceptionally deep scanning, and will give you accurate readings through 2 sheets of drywall. **Q: Does this work for say wooden joists through a wooden floor?** A: Probably not...but there is a chance. If the flooring is a denser material than the joist behind it, it will not work. This sensor works by identifying the denser material and is designed to work through drywall. However, some customers have claimed that it has worked through a half inch layer of drywall on top of another 1/2 inch layer of particle board and still accurately identified the studs behind the wall. It will depend on the wood/flooring type and the joist material. Just about the best for the price. None of these type of detectors are infallible, but this drvice is quite accurate and consistent. Easy and intuitive to use too. Won't find mains cables, but doesn't claim too. I use this to find lovation & width stud, then use a separate mains cable detector to check for cables before drilling.
