If Women Rose Rooted: A Journey to Authenticity and Belonging

A wonderfully woven exploration of not just the author's journey to her place of belonging, but also beautiful accounts of many women past, present and mythical from whom we can take courage and inspiration. A celebration of feminine values and attributes that encourages us to find our own voices, our own stories and to occupy spaces that have been lost to so many women. A call to reconnect and re root ourselves with the natural world and to share the wisdom of elders. Painfully honest and raw at times, I found so much to be profoundly relatable.

Interesting book

Uniquely written - stories told from Celtic roots and personal experiences of the author. Incredibly deep, powerful and insightful. A huge wake up and a calling to bring back the true harmony of the masculine and the feminine energies back into our world!!

There’s a lot of things to like in this book, especially if you’re like me so spending time in nature and being immersed in folktales, myths and legends are things you enjoy. The creation of a heroine’s journey, that looks nothing like Joseph Campbell’s heros journey and far more linked to the land and to community really spoke to me, as did some of the old stories Sharon picked to illustrate her points. However there is such a massive focus on what is traditionally seen as womanhood, and a womans experience that it was alienating at times. I’ve not had children, I don’t see myself as particularly feminine, my womb and periods are things I would cheerfully give up without a second thought. I didn’t really find myself fitting into part of the text, despite Sharon clearly not wanting anyone to feel left out if they didn’t fit the mould. So I have done what I alway do with books of this sort, taken what made sense and felt helpful to me and left the rest. It is an approach I would urge other readers to take if they pick it up, since it has been written from a place of sincerity and a wish to help anyone who finds themselves lost on the shores of burnout and struggling with the world today.

I really enjoy Sharon Blackie's work and having read Hagitude, this was an obvious choice for my next book. It hasn't disappointed. I love how Ms Blackie shares stories to highlight the challenges we're facing currently and how she advocates a more equal balance of the feminine and masculine without being anti-men.

This book blew my mind. If you ever read "Women Who Run With The Wolves" and were disappointed, then this book is for you. If you liked WWRWTW then this is a million times more empowering, inspiring, informative and just easier to read. If you read Campbell's "The Hero's Journey" and wished there was an equivalent Heroine's Journey, then this is it. If you're a man who is sick of the patriarchal society AND grieving over the destruction of the planet, you may find this a powerful and enlightening read. In this book Sharon applies Celtic myth and folklore to her own Eco-Heroine's journey to show how to apply it to our own lives. She links the onset of the patriarchal society, beginning with the rewriting of the story of Adam & Eve into the Christian religion (thereby depicting women as a creation for man's pleasure alone, and as weak-willed temptresses, not to be trusted and responsible for the downfall of man) with the destruction of the planet. In the old Celtic (and worldwide) indigenous stories, women were the guardians and protectors of the Earth and all who live in it. They had sovereignty and were respected and revered, they held spiritual and moral authority. But the patriarchal society stripped women of their natural roles and so the planet goes unprotected. She advocates a re-telling of the old stories as a way for women to return to their natural roles of sovereignty and guardians of the planet and all its living beings. This is not about one gender dominating the other but about restoring balance which has been lost. It struck so many chords with me I couldn't put it down!

Apparently so. I bought it for my daughter but nearly kept it for myself. I asked her how it was and she laughed, and told me it was perfect... she'd been thinking of buying it for herself.

What a superb book! A mix of personal journey, history and lore. The words I so desperately needed to make sense of my own disconnection (and reconnection) with Celtic heritage and as a Celtic woman. Thank you.

Love this book but I received a different cover to the one in the picture. Not an issue but worth mentioning in case others are counting on this specific cover.

Maybe I'm biased because after reading Sharon Blackie's first book, I've read each one after that and wildly enjoyed each one, including this one!

Love this book. Should be in every woman's library. I will be gifting it to friends and family.
