I have several different brands and sizes of shoe polish brushes. This one was an experiment. I'm setting up my son with his first shoeshine kit. I personally use the Ralyn large brushes and they are a good size but I find it hard to get into the smaller areas of the shoe well. The Ralyn also shed a LOT more than I like. This Takavu brush is a tad smaller but I think a better size for overall shoecare and seems to be a standard size for these brushes anyway. It fits the hand well and gets into the arch areas without any problem. The brush came in it's own box which I was surprised to discover is actually recommended for storage as well. Makes sense to keep from damaging the bristles and the box is slightly heavier material than you'd expect. You can tell it was purposely meant to offer some protection for the brush (which otherwise would seem wasteful). During our shining session we each got to try both of the main brushes and both agreed we like the Takavu better. The size is right and more importantly it barely shed at all. Bristles are soft and seem to have a good density. I'm actually going to order some for myself now seeing how well they worked. This will be my new primary shine brush. Thanks.

I picked this up because I've got a few pairs of leather shoes and boots that I actually want to last. I live in Delaware now (used to be in Florida), and with all the travel I do for work and leisure, my shoes take a beating. Between hotel carpets, airport floors, and random city sidewalks, they start looking rough fast. I needed something that could knock off the dust and bring back a little shine without scratching the leather. My expectations weren't crazy. It's a horsehair brush – not exactly rocket science. I just wanted something with soft enough bristles that wouldn't mess up my shoes, a handle that felt decent in my hand, and a price that didn't make me feel like an idiot for buying a brush. The pros (what actually works) The concave handle is a nice touch. It fits your hand better than a flat brush, and you don't feel like you're gripping a 2x4 . It makes buffing easier, especially if you're doing a few pairs in a row. The bristles are soft but still do the job. They're gentle enough that you're not scratching the leather, but firm enough to kick off dried dirt and raise the nap a bit before you polish . One reviewer mentioned using this on "very expensive handmade English dress shoes" and said it worked fine – that's a decent endorsement . The size is solid too. It covers a good amount of surface area, so you're not scrubbing one tiny spot at a time like with those little travel brushes . The cons (stuff to know before buying) The shedding is real. A bunch of reviews mention this – you'll get loose bristles coming out the first few times you use it . One guy said to "give them good agitation to remove loose hairs before use" and maybe even snip off some long ones . Most people say it stops after a few uses, but it's annoying when you're trying to buff and end up picking little hairs off your freshly polished shoes. Not everyone agrees on the quality. Some reviews say it's well-made and feels solid . Others complain about loose threads or bristles pulling out too easily . Seems like maybe some batches are better than others. The bristles might be too soft for heavy-duty cleaning. If you're trying to scrub mud off work boots, this isn't that. It's for polishing and light dusting – not heavy scrubbing . Real-world use I use mine after every few wears – quick brush to get dust off, then maybe a buff if I've recently polished. The concave handle actually helps when you're putting some elbow grease into it. I've also used it on a leather jacket and a leather bag, worked fine. One tip I saw: get separate brushes for different color polishes – one for black, one for brown, one for neutral . Keeps you from accidentally darkening light-colored leather. Value for money.Excellent Did it meet my expectations? Yeah, mostly. It cleans my shoes, the handle is comfortable, and it doesn't scratch the leather. The shedding was annoying at first, but it's slowed down. If you expect zero bristle loss from day one, you'll be disappointed. If you just want a decent brush that won't ruin your shoes, this works. Final Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. Lose one star for the shedding issue and the occasional quality complaint. But for everyday shoe maintenance? Good enough for me.

This is exactly what it says it's as far as I'm able to tell a genuine horsehair brush & a wooden handle/top part it's concaved & is made of real wood not fiberbored or plastic it's got a nice stain/coating on it. It functions as it should it cleaned my boots up quickly & easily & my boots were very dusty before I used this brush it's a good price & a matching what the description states it is. I would definitely buy & recommend to others to buy it they're looking for a leather brush this isn't a painting brush although I suppose you might be able to to paint with it that's not its intened purpose as far as I'm aware but for cleaning boots which is the reason I purchased it, this item works very well & it seems to be made well & should last for a good amount of time if used properly & stored nicely. Overall I'd say it's worth the money for sure.

Was exactly what I need to buff my handcarved figurines. Works perfectly. Bristles are soft and do no scratch the surface.

I read about the loose brush hairs, and I spent a few minutes just pulling them from the new brush before I used it. After that, when I used it, it never shed further. Very nice brush, it’s my first and I’m very happy with it!
