HydraPak Flux Collapsible Backpacking Water Bottle (1L, Mammoth Grey)

I've tried a few soft bottles because there's a lot of appeal for camping and traveling - lightweight and doesn't take a lot of space, and sometimes I don't want to deal a hydration bladder. They've all had issues - nalgene's would fall over due to the large wide mouth cap, platypus's were impossible to dry, and so on. Found an older model of the hydrapak flux that I loved for camping and traveling - super easy to pack, came in at least 32 oz, stood up on it's own, and was easier to clean and dry. Didn't super love the twist cap as it didn't release air so it would eventually flop over as you drank, and the mouthpiece was exposed. After the wife made me carry her double walled bottle during skiing, I bought her bottle, and I feel it's been improved in every way. It's wider so there's a more stable base, they added a flip cap, and now when you untwist, it lets air escape so the bottle will expand back to it's normal shape. They added clear plastic on the top so it's easier to see how much liquid is left, and the cap prevents leakage while still in the open twisted position. The loop is longer which makes it easier to roll up as in the pictures, but it's still kind of a pain, so I rarely do it. I'm undecided whether to just steal my wife's bottle, or buy a second one for myself. I still use hard bottles for sizes about 32 oz as I'm unsure of the sturdiness of the larger sizes, but this has become my go to whenever I want to take some water out of the house.

These worked great at universal studios. They have free ice and water fill up. They do have a slight taste like your drinking out of a garden hose. But I also used it with a nuun tablet and the taste was gone. I also really liked the valve. It was easy to use and didn't spill. The fit in my cargo shorts, and I was able to carry in my belt. Definitely would recommend these.

I was looking for exactly this for awhile, but am surprised they didn't advertise a couple key features, such as it being free standing regardless of fill level. It's also easy to fold up and store as well as taking the Katadyne BeFree filters, as somewhat expected. The only bad thing is it does impart a plastic taste into what you put in it, though I don't have to worry about flavored drinks contaminating a filter with the stock cap. It does make a good compainion to a BeFree water bladder for longer outings.

What a great design. I appreciate its soft body. I can store it in my backpack dry when I go through TSA and fill it up post security. I can store it in my carry on without taking up much space.

This collapsing water bottle has changed the game. I use this when running and what is so great about it is that the bottle will hold its shape no matter how much water is in there. And if you want to make it smaller or collapse then all you have to do is twist the top and squeeze some of the air out and it will hold to the shape that you desire. Now you don’t have to lug around an empty container once you finish it. It folds up neatly and fits in a bag saving space.

As a UL they-hiker I was looking for an upgrade to the slow-filtering Sawyer, but needed a lightweight and reasonably durable bottle to pair with the Katadyn filter. While the Flux is heavier than a Smart water bottle, it’s worth the weight to be able to use the Katadyn filter. The bottle itself is remarkably durable (Appalachian Trail thru/hike tested), easy to fill due to its large mouth, and collapses a great deal when not full (which is great for traveling to the trail!). The sole drawback would be the plastic taste this bottle leaches into the water. At first it was bad. Like…really bad. I rinsed it, baking soda and lemon juice soaked, and finally bleach soaked it to get to a non-nauseating level of taste. Even after 4 months on the Appalachian Trail, it still has trace amounts of that delectable plastic flavor. TL;DR: it works with the Katadyn filter, but be prepared for the plastic taste to be around for quite some time.

This bottle is great for hiking, especially when paired with the filter. Highly recommended!

For this price, it's awful!! it does hold the amount of water I want for long treks and travel, but after I washed it for use, it had a plastic odor that still hasn't gone away, and it's very unpleasant. Even after filling the bottle with BOTTLED water, it still smelled plasticky and the taste was not good!! I would return it but it's too late! Don't waste your money

Took to Europe and was so handy. It is extremely lightweight and easy to roll up and hook to my bag. It did initially have a taste, but after a good clean out with lemon and bicarb, it went away. Great size bottle!

I purchased a Hydrapak flux bottle but unfortunately it had a minute pin hole near the top of the bottle. Gutted! My return window had ended even before I had the chance to use the bottle and did not learn about the leak until too late. (most likely made this way) Doubly gutted. I contacted the seller and they immediately said they would replace the item. Perfect service. Thank you Scale Farm. The bottle is fantastic. It was most likely one of those unlucky ‘one offs’ were the bottle was defective but the product is definitely worth buying. ( without pin hole!) Recommend you buy this bottle and buy it from scalefarm.com at least then you have a good team at the end of a keyboard waiting to help you.
