## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this oil acid and resin free at the same time?**
A: Hi Mike...Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question...what I do know is it prevents rust and fingerprints from all my precision layout and measuring tools and knives/cutting tools, and doesn't leave any sticky residue behind. The oil does creep away, so periodic reapplication is required for continued protection...it would seem if it had resins in it, it might leave some sort of sticky residue on the surface, but it does not.

**Q: Will it work for a dot matrix impact printer bar?**
A: Yes, I would expect this to be a good choice of oil. It will remain on the part as an oil rather than evaporate like WD-40 and other oils used for freeing stuck parts. You could use regular 1-2-3 oil, but I would use Starrett because I have had very good success with it in terms of longevity. Make sure that the bar is clean (as I recall, paper dust often accumulates there). You could use a cloth, although compressed air (available in spray cans) is a better choice. Oil the bar and the bearings of the print head. Finally, wipe of any excess oil to avoid oil stains on your paper. If the bar is very dirty, you can use the oil for cleaning (there are better cleaners, but this will work). Wipe of the oily dirt completely and add clean oil at the end to lubricate.

**Q: Is this a good oil for woodcarving chisels?**
A: If you need a very light oil this is good

**Q: i have an old dial indicator that is sticking. will this work to lubricate it back to working condition?**
A: It should. I've used this product on several instruments and hand guns this is a fine grade, light lubricant. You' ll have to clean the tool first, then apply a light coating . This lubricates and also protecrs the instrument. I' ve had good results witb this product.

This is my go-to oil for precision mechanisms. As I understand, it is used by Starrett to coat its precision tools and instruments in the factory. Even in decades-old unused Starrett tools with this original oil coating I have never seen either rust or gummed-up residue. And everything lubricated with this oil in my shop stays lubricated for a good long time. It does creep away slowly, but primarily through use and through absorption into the metal. Volatility seems minimal. I use this oil in all situations that require a film of oil on the inside of a mechanism, such as micrometer threads. For other purposes, I do use two other standard lubricants: Starrett M1 spray for protecting raw steel surfaces against rust and WD-40 to drive out moisture. But for creating a long-lasting film, this oil is the best I have used. I always keep an unopened bottle in reserve so I never run out.
