We also use it if we have food in a bowl (e.g. a salad) that we want to keep covered in the fridge. My newest application - the smallest diameter one, I've been using to cover a coffee cup when I microwave it ( I have a theory that steam building up in a microwave shortens its life, so keep the steam contained to the cup/mug). One downside of this item - I specifically purchased this because it says the smallest is 4", because that's the diameter of my chunky mug. However, the diameter is closer to 3 and 7/8 inch.
