Then lightly sand it down. Then apply 1 or 2 coats of Deft Clear Wood Finish Gloss. Yes I believe it will hold up. I have used a lot of lacquers in my time and I believe Deft is the best by far. **Q: Can this be applied over stain or paint and then just left as the final finish? Is it flat, satin or glossy. Can it be applied before staining?** A: Sandra, all lacquers (pigmented or clear) are meant to be the final finish applied to any surface. Do not apply before painting or staining, and DO NOT apply over a surface that has previously been painted with any type of polyurethane product. If you are applying to a previously painted surface be sure to light sand or "scuff up" that surface. It gives the lacquer something to grip onto. It's also a good idea if you are applying lacquer to a newly stained surface or previously painted surfaces to apply a coat or two of sanding sealer before spraying on the final finish. Light sanding between each coat will guarantee bonding to the previous surface, and the more coats you apply the deeper and richer the color on the surface becomes. Don't be too greedy and try to spray your project all at once with one big coat. Several light coats with sanding in between will get you a much better result. Good luck, and be sure to use that stuff in a very well ventilated area. **Q: Can I use this on a guitar I sanded?** A: It's better to ask a luthier who has a finish schedule from bare wood. Generally, DEFT is a good wood sealer which can be sanded lightly between build up coats. It is an old and dependable product. I was glad to see it in spray form now. An older and still one of the best (If not the best) wood sealers is unwaxed shellac flakes which are diluted in alcohol and then brushed on to build up layers which can also be lightly sanded between coats.
