This tool can be a pain, but for the price, it should definitely be something worth trying out. It doesn't stay suctioned very well, especially if oil can get between the suction and valve, causing it to pop off really easily. After the 3rd valve, I sort of got used to it and figured out ways to keep it sticking longer. Id dry both surfaces, and wipe of areas. I'd work the tool in a way it stayed on longer when I spin it. Yes it's a pain, but I'd rather feel it working and lapping by hand than using a drill and what not. A drill would be faster, but as a first time engine restorer, I wanted to do it the hard way first to make sure I do it correctly. I think I'll try a rubber hose/tube and stick it on the opposite end and spin it that way next time. I think I can still get a feel of lapping the valve, and a tube/hose would stay on easier. But as far as this tool goes, just be patient, and know that the suction isn't very good. But you'll get used to it and learn to make it work.

Work as made to, does good finish work. I ended up using a variable speed 3/8 drill hooked to the valve stem on low to speed up the process with the heads solid on the work bench. Valve in place, drill chucked firm but not tight to valve stem tip, light pressure, no problems. Don't want to chuck it too tight, might mar the stem tip, not too much pull pressure and it did not slip ever for me. No marks on any of the valve stem tips. Ran it low, and kept eye on valve stem & head alignment. If your careful and gentile you can feel the valve head is grinding on seat correctly. Checked fit using the felt ink pen on valve and seat, used this tool to turn the valve for this step. Both valve seat and the valve head had the desired smooth shiny and correct bevel placement. This tool will do it all, but you will feel like a cave man starting a fire, and it takes time, lots of it for automobile valve work. Wouldn't be a problem for say a lawn mower, chain saw, or small engine. Worked for me

These work okay for the money. I used the one that had the smaller two suction cups on it to lap the valves on my 5HP Briggs & Stratton flathead engine. I used the bigger suction cup of the two on the small stick. The suction cups seem a little bit stiff, and didn’t want to stay suctioned very well on the exhaust valve. It did a little better on the intake. Make sure you use a little spit/water. For the price, they are okay and got the job done, but I wonder if there are better ones out there.

My 30 year old valve tool has hardened and pretty much useless now. I purchased this set to replace them with. They were on sale and a coupon on here as well so I got them at a great price. They shipped out quick and arrived on time. Seem very well made and they of course work as they should. I would buy again and recommend for anyone doing valve work.

Once you wear in the rubber, it will start to still to surfaces that are less than ideal. It took maybe 4 valves before I could tell it was broke in. ONLY FOR PROS TIP: You are able to remove one of the auction cups on the stick by just pulling it off. Magically enough, you can use a 1/4" drive socket adapter on a drill, instead of the stick! You just have to be very careful! Be sure you test the hardness between the intake and exhaust valves, so you can get a good idea on how long to use the drill for.

Theses value lapped work great , the variable sizes are perfect and they have great suction .

Going to give it 5 stars, but, I did have trouble. seems well built. I had trouble keeping the suction cup stuck to the valve. tried cleaning cup and valve many times, used water and spit to try to improve suction cup stick. I cleaned the valve and could never get more that 2 or 3 series of turns before it popped off. Could be operator inexperience (me). I've read that many people have difficulty with these types of lappers. in the end, it did the job, but cause a few cursing streaks.requires patience.
