On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy was killed, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? Take a journey to find out in the genre-busting 11.22.63, an epic new nine-hour event series from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions (Person of Interest, Fringe, Lost), acclaimed international author Stephen King, executive producer/writer Bridget Carpenter (The Red Road, Parenthood, Friday Night Lights) and Warner Bros. Television. Additionally, Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland, State of Play) will direct and executive produce the first two hours of the series. Based upon the bestselling novel written by King and starring a terrific ensemble cast embodying deeply complex characters, 11.22.63 hurtles viewers deep into the unpredictable darkness of the American dream. James Franco stars as Jake Epping, a high school teacher at a loss with his life, who wants to make a difference and do something meaningful. Encouraged by his ailing friend (Chris Cooper), Jake journeys back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The story transports audiences into the world of 1960s Texas as Jake explores the multiple mysteries surrounding the alleged assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. But Jake's mission faces threats not only from Oswald, but from Sadie, a beautiful librarian he falls in love with, and from the Past itself... which doesn't want to be changed. And if the Past doesn't want to be changed, it will push back -- often violently. With something for everyone, this edge-of-your seat mystery offers an epic and emotional thrill ride unlike any other. Review: The past pushes back..... - Almost as fantastic as the book. I have been a Constant Reader for 30+ years and found this to be one of the best adaptations of a Stephen King novel I've ever seen. Very well acted by every men of the cast. James Franco as Jake Epping and Daniel Webber as Lee Harvey Oswald deserve medals for their performances. This is highly recommend for any fans of JFK, time travel and Constant Readers of the master, Stephen King. 10/10 Review: Highly underrated movie adaption - One of my all time favorite series, James Franco is brilliant and I wouldnt be his biggest fan, Sarah Gadon and George McKay (you might remember him from 1917) are excellent too, great casting job. Needless to say that the book is well worth a read, however the TV series is definitely in my all-time top 3

The book is better.
Having read the book first, I admit that the dvd left a little to be desired. It seems that whenever a Stephen King book is dramatised, small changes are made that leave me asking what the point of the change was? Evidence 'The Stand'. That said, it was well-made, well-acted, and covered enough of the story for it to make sense.

moving and altogether excellent series. If you have only this
Somewhat different from King's novel of the same name, but nevertheless an exciting, moving and altogether excellent series. If you have only this, get the book as well. If you have only the book, watch this as well. OK, I suppose I could add that I absolutely do not believe in anything supernatural, but King writes about such so well that I can suspend that disbelief - and the same applies to these DVDs.

It takes you back
Once you get into this show its one of those box sets that you can watch through from start to finish in one sitting even if it keeps you up to 3.30 am on a Sunday morning. However you’ve got to be hungry because there’s a lot of farfetched stuff you’ve got to swallow to get you started. Our hero goes back to 1960 through a time porthole (Why was nobody else stumbling into this?) to head off a couple of tragedies including hanging around for three years (three years!) to try and avert JFK’s assignation. Still if you’ve previously enjoyed “Back to the future” and “Groundhog day” or you’re a regular Stephen King fan, this should easily float your boat. I’m always obsessed with detail and as a former resident of that arboreal backwater of the Central Line I was intrigued by Stephen King’s pick of “Epping” as the surname for his hero and wonder what influenced his choice. I really enjoyed seeing all the old V8 gas guzzling cars from the period the most stunning of which was a certain red and white 58 Plymouth “Christine” this time appropriately cameoing as the daily driver of librarian “Sadie’s” evil estranged husband. Apparently the “Christine” they used was an authentic survivor from the 1983 movie now worth a million dollars with the cast signatures under the boot sorry trunk lid. The DVD was received in good time although annoyingly one of the discs was flapping around loose in the case but fortunately not scratched, as case was in cellophane difficult to apportion blame to manufacturer, vendor or GPO.

Excellent and gripping
I watched this without having read the book and it is absolutely gripping. As soon as you've watched an episode you want to move onto the next. The look of the series is wonderful in its re-creation of 1960s America. Being King, there is a horror undertone to the proceedings and the focus is not all on the alternative history. Excellent.

An interesting premise
An interesting premise, with a great cast, despite that the ending is weak and makes you wonder why you sat through it in the first place

Very well made . Details and info was based on real facts with some added dimensions.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching. Follows the book by Stephen King with lots of action. Lots to think about for those of us who lived through these troubled times.
