Phool Makhana aka Fox Nuts - need to roast, not ready to eat
All the reviews saying these were stale and soft!!! You, yes you have to roast them, they are not ready to eat. One of my favourite ways to make makhana is the spicy Indian version. It's full of flavour but still fairly healthy. Spicy Masala Makhana **Ingredients** * 2 cups phool makhana * 1ยฝ tsp ghee (or neutral oil) * ยฝ tsp salt * ยฝ tsp roasted cumin powder (jeera) * ยผ tsp turmeric * ยผโยฝ tsp Kashmiri chilli powder (for colour and mild heat) * ยผ tsp black pepper * ยฝ tsp chaat masala * A pinch of amchur (dried mango powder), optional but delicious Method 1. Dry roast the makhana over **low heat** for 8โ10 minutes until crisp. 2. Add the ghee and stir for about 1 minute. 3. Reduce the heat to its lowest setting. 4. Sprinkle over all the spices and toss continuously for 30โ60 seconds so the spices coat the makhana without burning. 5. Remove from the heat immediately and let them coolโthey'll become even crispier. Tips * Don't rush the roasting. Low heat is the secret to crunchy makhana. * If the spices start smelling burnt, take the pan off the heat straight away. * If your makhana ever go a little soft after storing, simply dry roast them again for 2โ3 minutes to restore the crunch. A protein-rich twist Once they've cooled slightly, sprinkle over: * 1โ2 tbsp nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavour and extra B vitamins. * A pinch of garlic powder for even more savoury flavour. They're perfect as an afternoon snack with chai or coffee, and much lighter than crisps while still satisfying that craving for something crunchy. You can also use the air fryer.

YUMO
Fully addicted to them. Nice taste. Better than popcorn and yet so similar. Great snack, neutral in flavour. Will be buying more.

Not fresh
Poor quality, they were soft and not crunchy, indicating they are not fresh

Like chewing stale popcorn
It makes for a low calorie and very filling snack that apparently has a lot of beneficial properties for your body. However, it just doesn't taste like anything. There's a mild earthy taste and the texture is like stale popcorn. Not the best snack, unfortunately!

Delicious roasted
These are puffed lotus seeds, I've never tried them before and didn't even know you could eat lotus seeds but I love trying new things. Raw, they are a little bit spongy and chewy, with no flavour as such. After some googling, I found a good way to prepare them is to roast them in a pan with some oil, salt and spices. I used a generic curry powder blend and it came out delicious - very much like a savory popcorn. I don't know if I'd get myself some more, but it was definitely worth trying once.

Flavourless - I think you have to add your own spices etc
These need something...... they have zero flavour? The times ive had in the past they were salty or chilli or black pepper. They also feel the wrong texture. I think maybe they need preparation! They arrived quickly and with good packaging and good use by date. But wish they had flavour or instructions on how to prepare
