The ventilation holes in the lower windshield are turned to face the wind to increase the oxygen supply to the burner. If the wind becomes too strong, the stove is turned to maintain the required flame. The Trangia spirit burner runs on alcohol based fuels such as methylated spirits which are low cost, safe and readily available. The combined frying pan/lid can be put on top of the pan to speed up heating and save fuel. The stove stands stable, with the pan on the supports recessed into the upper windshield. The supports are turned upwards when the frying pan is used. The Trangia stove can also be used with a gas, multi-fuel or gel burner, which all can be found in the Trangia range of accessories. Chosing the right Trangia stove Which size? Trangia 25 Series (3-4 person). All have 2 pans (1.5L and 1.75L), a 22cm frying pan, upper and lower windshields, a burner, a pan handle and strap. Trangia 27 Series (1-2 person). All contain 2 x 1L pans (1 graded, 1 ungraded), an 18cm frying pan, upper and lower windshields, a burner, a pan handle and strap. With or without a kettle? Although my bottle is the 1 litre size, it doesn't quite hold 1 litre of fuel if you keep the contents below the 'max line'. Maybe 0.8 or 0.9 litres is possible though. The bottle itself is made of high density Polyethylene and I couldn't see any reference to it being made of aluminium in the description, so I don't know why someone would down grade it for not being so. The safety valve is a two stage process. The black cap on top is twistable. Turn it anti-clockwise to open the valve. Then, when you're ready to dispense, simply push the cap down to release the fuel. When you release the cap, the fuel flow stops. The funnel is bi-directional, so either end will dispense the fuel (the other end then acting as a vent to allow smooth operation). Turn the cap clockwise to then completely seal the fuel in the bottle. This will allow the bottle to be stored horizontally, vertically or upside down, if you wish, without compromising the fuel. It's a great design. You might get some residual fuel in the funnel causing a little smell, but this will dissipate over time. I cook on a small trangia stove and I get 4 heat ups of tins of beans or soup each time...ergo 4 large tins using meths **Q: How tall is the bottle?** A: 19 cm seven an a quarter inches **Q: Would this be suitable for carrying paraffin?** A: I would thinks so it is very convenient to use for storing and pouring fuel.
