For this story, I feel compelled to say that it’s a truly remarkable story. The author’s willingness to be so open about the pain and trauma of knowing that her dad is a serial killer was eye-opening for me. I can’t begin to imagine how difficult this knowledge is for her, her family, and everyone who “thought” they knew her father. She doesn’t overlook the families of those he murdered, but this story is more about the trauma and PTSD of one whose loved one is the person who took those lives. Society tends to gloss over the pain of the families of killers. This story gave me a deeper insight into what those families go through. I appreciated the author’s biblical references and that she credits God’s enduring love for helping her healing process. I also found her storytelling skills engaging when she described her experiences when she was growing up and her current family life. I especially liked reading about her hiking trip in the Grand Canyon. Her description of her dad’s volatile temper resonated with me because my “ex” had a similar temper. (the main reason he’s my ex.) I couldn’t imagine having my dad with me for that long in my life and then finding out he was a serial killer.
