Tried and trusted method!
I have been making espresso coffee for many years, and have used various stovetop Moka Pots and various electric Espresso Machines. Had been using a Gaggia Classic for the last four years or so, but it recently started getting sluggish – though possibly just furred up inside. I decided to either get another electric machine or a moka pot, and as Gaggia have now sold out to Phillips and I had heard some negative things about that, I decided on going back to a stove top model. Where coffee is concerned, I only drink espresso and never use milk, so this option suited me fine and saved a good deal of money into the bargain – probably saving more than £200.So out of all the different mokas to choose from, I went for this “Bialetti Allegra Coffee Maker, Silver, 3 Cup” model. After all they are a top selling and well-known brand. I wanted a three cup pot and it was then between the “Bialetti Moka Express Espresso Maker, 3 Cup” and the “Bialetti Allegra Coffee Maker, Silver, 3 Cup” model. These two models were pretty much the same price and as far as I can see the "Allegra" is basically the same as other mokas that I’ve had before now but it has a silicone gasket rather than the usual synthetic rubber, the logo is slightly different, and the handle is slightly different (and perhaps a bit more comfortable, if you compare the two models). On the plus side, mokas are so much simpler than the larger electric machines and therefore less to go wrong. They are easy to use and easy to maintain. And this particular model certainly ticks all of those boxes. On the down side, and there is only the one for me, is the fact that I no longer get a good crema on my coffee, and as I drink my coffee out of an espresso shot-type glass it is even more noticeable. But taste-wise it is superb and so a definite ten out of ten, also it is very comfortable when using/handling and so also ten out of ten for that.

Nice moka
Nice coffe makerYou don’t need any paper filter. There is inside Aluminium filter.Put water in the bottom part. Under the valve level.Put the filter in, add coffe powder. And screw in top part. Just it.Gives u nice italian espresso coffe. Is shorter but more tasty than a pint of English coffe. And you can have in the morning, of after lunch. Pour slowly in the cup . No rush just enjoy it.Good moka.Give a good taste and work perfectly.I don’t know how other people have problems....It’s strange

Good coffee, FOR ONE!
Used this for the first time today. I used it with illy espresso and it makes good coffee! However, it is comically small! It really wouldn’t make three cups of espresso unless Alice has gone down the rabbit hole again! 🐇 (see photos, all coffee produced in one go). I used it on my electric hob and it worked really well. The ‘3’ setting was not boiling so I turned it to ‘4’ (a 6 setting hob) on a small ring and it started to boil. In future I’d buy a bigger one. The packaging implies it will work on a gas hob but not an induction hob.

Stick with the standard bialetti- not this one
Had a standard Bialetti 4 cup coffee maker- and needed to replace after putting on the stove without water by mistake and burning off the handle. Chose this one over the normal one because it was cheaper. But this was a mistake. The pourer is messy and spills when pouring the coffee into your cup. If you lift the lid while its bubbling to see where its at- the spout spits coffee all over your stove top and makes a mess. Equally if you lift the lid after boiling has finished coffee off of the lid drips all over your stove top and also makes more mess. Made good cup of coffee but design makes annoying mess and i wish i’d bought the standard one. Also my mistake i chose a 3 cup when my previous must have been 4 cup. 4 cup makes a nice cup of coffee when topped up with milk or water- 3 cups just isnt enough.

Good but small
Quality great but disappointed with its small size. Doesn't look like it would make two cupfulls. Should have gone for a larger size

Lovely size for 1-2 cups of espresso
Perfect size for a small quantity of proper Italian coffee. We only had a 6 cup version which was too big if only 1 or 2 people wanted an espresso. Our son's Italian girlfriend will find it exceedingly useful when she comes here in the summer. We wasted a lot of coffee last year because she insisted on always making the full pot and then not drinking it all.Italians will not drink old coffee it has to be freshly made!
