I’ve been using this 54mm KNODOS Espresso Tamper with my Breville machine for a few weeks now, and it’s safe to say this might be the last tamper I’ll ever need to buy. I'm kinda floored by this thing. First impressions, it is heavy. Like 2 lbs heavy. The machining finish is beautiful all around. The wood is smooth and well finished and while it does display a logo, there are no weird Amazon brand names to be found. The logo is quite classy really. How this works: There are two springs in the unit. The first is a very light pressure spring that attaches to the collar. The collar is precision machined and matched to the shaft so that it slides up and down easily, but cannot wobble or move off perpendicular. When the collar engages the top of the portafilter, the light pressure spring compresses and the tamping plate travels straight down into the portafilter. There is second spring in the shaft, between the handle and the tamping plate that is weight calibrated. This spring is changeable. The tamper comes pre installed with a 25lb spring and there is a 20lb and 30lb spring in the box, a long with tools to change the spring. As you push down, the collar spring compresses until the tamping plate touches the coffee and then you feel more resistance as the calibrated spring kicks in. You simply press a little further to slightly compress the calibrated spring, and you're done. The trick here is to not bottom out the calibrated spring, or you will just be directly applying force to the puck. 25lbs is a lot less force than you think when pressing down. I have no doubts that this tamper comes a going to provide me consistently in tamping for years to come and it goes be me peace of mind that I am able to eliminate another variable in my pursuit of the perfect shots. I can't recommend it enough. After holding this thing in my hands and using it, I would've been willing to pay a fair bit more to own it. The quality level is just not something that you see anymore these days.

This is truly a high quality tamper. Looks great and the wood is classy. It fits perfectly in the stock bambino plus basket. I tried it with other baskets as well like an IMS and it fits pretty well. Very easy to use out of the box and the default calibration is enough with no need to exchange it. Tamping is great and does its job well every time and flat every time. For the price this is probably one of the best tampers out there and would highly recommend it. Can be slightly difficult to clean because of the ridges at the bottom but not a big deal and can be done with a small brush in a couple of seconds. I had another tamper that was calibrated as well but had a very thick bottom part that made it difficult to tamp flat but this one is made just right to allow for perfect tamping every time. So if you have a similar problem this will work well for that. A small thing but I like the small keychain it comes with. Just a cherry on top.

This Tamper is as legit as it gets. Beautifully machined stainless steel. And equally nice Rosewood handle. I’m a machinist and woodworker by hobby. The parts all fit together nicely. I swapped out the 25lb spring for the 30lb. See the video showing how much pressure it puts on my digital scale - thats pretty accurate! Much more consistent than I could do with a one piece tamper. The other bonus to this tamper is your puck will be level every time. I’m new to espresso making and using a La Pavoni manual lever machine which has a bit of a learning curve. It’s nice to take the variable of the tamper out of the equation. I ordered the 51.5mm size. The box that it arrived in showed it was 51mm. I was relieved when it measured 51.52mm. I’m not a fan of logos and was quite happy that the logo is more subtle than it looks the stock photos. Ten out of ten - would buy it again.

The quality of this tamper is outstanding. I immediately switched out the 25lb. spring for the 30lb and it is fabulous. This tamper is extremely well made and functions perfectly. The overall weight is superb and tamping is smooth and effortless. This is now my favorite tamper, hands down! Highly recommended!

I’ve been using this KNODOS 54mm auto leveling espresso tamper with my Breville machine, and it fits the portafilter properly without needing adjustment. The auto leveling feature helps keep the tamp consistent, especially when preparing multiple shots back to back. The rosewood handle feels smooth and comfortable in hand, with enough weight to feel controlled during use. The base sits flat on the coffee bed, which makes tamping feel more even compared to a standard manual tamper. It also returns smoothly after pressing, without sticking or wobbling. After repeated use, the tamper has held up well and feels solid. Cleanup is simple, and the finish still looks good after regular handling. Overall, it functions as intended and fits nicely into a home espresso setup.

I have a Breville Barista Touch Impress espresso machine, but felt I could do better for a grinder. I bought an external grinder which dumps into small cup which is put over the upside down portafilter, then inverted to dump the grounds into it. The grounds look like a small mountain and need to be leveled before I can use a tamper. I bought a funnel and distribution tool set to do that then realized I could use the Breville's built-in tamper, which has the perfect height, pressure, and a gentle twist as it is released. This set looks to be high quality, allows for adjustable height in the basket, and comes with 3 springs so that the proper tamp pressure can be set. One star was taken off because while it has so many adjustments, the instructions aren't clear at all and you need to watch online videos to figure it out. I think that could be fixed.

Good quality. It feels strong and heavy. Leaves an even grind.

The tamper is directly connected to the handle. So there is no spring loading of the tamper pressure, which defeats the purpose of the spring loading. So really only provides a tamper depth setting! Needs a complete redesign!
