Wife and I have used these reels for a couple seasons for multiple trips to surf fish off the carolinas. We have paired them up with a 12' and 13' rod and they cast 100 yards. I've only had the bale snap down on one cast, but my penn spinfisher has done this as well. They are beautiful looking reels that still look brand new after dozens of outings. We do thoroughly rinse them off after every day fishing and have not a single corrosion issue. I have actually ran into 3 other fisherman that were using the same reel with the same positive options about the reels. They are a slight bit smaller than your typical 7000 series reels , but not by that much. The extra spool comes in handy if you need to switch up the size of line your using. My only wish is that the drag alarm/indicator/ clicker on the baitfeeder would be louder so you can hear it over the sound of the surf.
