The integrated guard works well, opening and closing without getting hung up. Though it can rattle a little when closed. As for the dubious promotion - I wouldn't call this a survival knife. The two handed opening, the lack of clip and cheap sheath, make it more of a hobby or casual outdoor knife. If you want to cut up some kindling, whittle a bit, slice a nice gouda, and this is a great pic.
