Was about six months old.
Yeast was a bit old. It did finally take off about two days after pitch. Results smell promising. May report back in a year.

The yeast is 6 months past it's best by date, clearly marked on the package! It does not deserve a single star.

Not a vibrant batch?
This is my go-to yeast and second disappointing purchase in a matter of months. Upon re-hydration, the yeast just really does not fully wake up and activate, even though package still within expiration limit. I have no idea what is wrong. I have used this Lalvin yeast forever with excellent results, but not lately.
