Fun! Great start for little programmers!
We honestly have neighborhood kids coming to our house begging to play bloxels. They are lucky if they get here before my kids run out of screen time! Haha! The concept is simple... Create a game from the different colored elements on your bloxel board. Transfer your game 'plan' to a tablet via photo, edit bloxels and connect boards in the app to create a full game, then play! It's super easy to use. My kids have had a time or two that the camera hasn't picked up their plan just right, but for the most part they have had success in a variety of different lighting conditions and haven't needed much help. Contrary to other reviews, we have found that you actually CANNOT create games in the app without the bloxels. Bloxels cannot be moved around once input into the program. They can only be fine-tuned to look different or to create a slightly different response. I actually like this because it gives the kids breaks from the screen, haha! We love this game because it gives the kids an opportunity to collaborate and be creative, and also lets then see a very basic visual of how a digital world is created. They love playing their games once they're done designing them, and they are so proud and can't wait for us try them too! ;) It's a great, affordable gift, most suitable for ages 5-10 in my opinion. So fun (almost too fun) for kids and is a great tool for many areas of brain development. It develops concepts of interactive/cooperative play, creative play, fine motor development, problem-solving, 'big picture' thinking, and of course, fun! If your kids love screens like mine do, this is one of the best, most productive ways for them to use their screen time. Buy it!

App shut down. Wasted money.
I ordered this item in August to give it to my son for Christmas only to find out when he opens it that it can no longer be used. The site has completely shut down. Wasted money.

Excellent, but not as good as the Original Bloxels
Bloxels is absolutely awesome and a great way for children to spend time on screens CREATING rather than just consuming. Really a fantastic app for problem solving and critical thinking. I'm disappointed that you can't eventually move beyond the blocks a build levels in the app alone. This is definitely a limitation. My son really liked the star wars theme but has gone back to the original game because it allows for much speedier editing.

Star Wars Bloxels is fun & creative!
The kids really like the video game playing itself (6yr & 8yrs old). The Blox tray used for creating levels is very interesting, my older 8 year old son finds it fun and comes up with some creative levels. Overall it is fun, especially if you like Star Wars theme in general.

OK, this is cool
How cool is this that you can build your own video game landscape. My kids loved this and I loved how they were learning to think ahead, plan, execute, and learn from their designs. This is fun and educational.

Does not work with Bloxels app. Star Wars app for it is gone. Waste of money
This may seem like a good item to purchase but it truly is a waste of money. They removed the star wars app you have to use with it and did not bother to at least make the main app compatible with it. Such a waste of money. My son was severely disappointed when he discovered he couldn't do anything with his gift.

Star Wars version does not allow you to build characters or scenery - just maps.
We saw a review of this product on a tech website and immediately ordered it. Since we skipped the extra cost of next day delivery we had time to watch some of the YouTube tutorials and got totally psyched up about what we were going to create! First things, to address some unanswered questions in the comments: 1. Yes, you can use one board for multiple devices. The physical board does not register any type of code or tie itself to a single iPad or user account. 2. Yes, the board is necessary to build levels - but just in the Star Wars version. But the original version allows you to edit levels without the board once you 'register' it with the original iPad app. From there you can do everything without the board - which is a good thing because getting the original app to recognize the blox on the board after that can be difficult. 3. No, I can't say that the Star Wars board works with the original iPad app. It does, but it's so frustratingly bad at recognizing the color of the blocks you've placed that we gave up on using the board at all. Now, on to my personal review. When it finally arrived we ripped it open and got the apps installed on our devices. We put our YouTube tutorials to use and built a great little map, pulled out the kids' iPad Mini 4 and ... it can't read the board. It can't find the board. After 5 minutes of angling, twisting, panning, zooming, it finally caught an image - but it was completely wrong, flooded with orange pixels and missing most of the ones we'd placed intentionally. We gave up on that iPad and tried their iPad Mini 2. Similar results, but it does recognize the board and will snap what we build with just a few errors. My iPhone 6s works the best it seems. So we started playing around and discovered the following: 1. Star Wars version does not allow you to customize characters, blocks, or backgrounds. You are limited to what's provided in the app. All you can do is build the map. 2. You are required to build your map levels using the board. You cannot add anything outside of the area recognized by the snapshot you take of the board. 3. Lighting conditions where you are working have to be almost perfectly flat. Any glare on the board will result in a misreading of your creation and you can't correct it after snapping it except to delete unintended blocks (lots and lots of them). 4. Works well on my iPhone but editing on that small screen is difficult. 5. Works best on my older son's iPad Mini 2, does not work at all on my younger son's iPad Mini 4. 6. There are no instructions or guides included in the box. 7. Not remotely crafted to accommodate color blind kids. One of mine can't see the difference between the fluorescent orange and neon green blocks. He gets so embarrassed when this comes up that he wouldn't tell me if there were any others he has a hard time with. Did I just pay $10 extra for an extremely limited version of Bloxels?

Do not buy this
Doesn't even deserve 1 star1 I bought this for my nephew and he was unable to use it at all because the app no longer works so he was unable to actually create his own computer game - extremely disappointing for him at Christmas and a complete waste of money - Amazon you should not be selling this at all.
