Taschen art books quickly become a passion - this volume is no exception
Following extensive spinal surgery, during the recovery phase, I rediscovered my love of art and the history of art. I already owned a few Taschen volumes but decided to build my collection. Buying used on Amazon is a great way to make this somewhat more affordable. I even found a few new titles selling cheaper than the used one on eBay. If you love high quality books, love art, love reading about art movements and artists across all genres - these Taschen books are hard to beat.

Amazing Soviet film posters
The Soviet film posters book I'm writing about is the large-size version (ISBN 978-3836589529, 34x26mm with 320 pages) and not the smaller version (ISBN 978-3754405543, 21x15mm with 512 pages). Both sizes have the same cover design, so you need to get the larger copy, which I think is the better of the two.The 250 posters are so unlike anything produced in the West during the 20s and 30s. They rely on incredibly strong graphics, especially photomontages, to put their message across to the public. The only common element is the use of faces in lots of different photographic and art styles. The posters are presented on black pages throughout the book. Each gets a reasonable-length caption about the film, plus technical details naming the designer, size, date etc. The author writes a worthwhile essay about the designers who created this amazing art. The back pages has brief biogs of them and a three-page index. You can look inside the book at Westread Book Reviews then click 2026 and April.

Absolutely brilliant, I wish all art books were like this
I don't normally write reviews but this is a ridiculously good book on Russian Avant Garde film posters. There's background on the major artists, commentary on their work, a solid collection of posters on quality paper, and accompanying text to explain what the films are about. I wish all art books possessed this breadth and depth when covering a particular subject. And I'm utterly amazed by the price for what I got in return.

Esoteric
I bought it for the pictures and was not disappointed. I have to sat the analysis was enlightening, relevant and concise. In so many books on culture it’s virtually impenetrable. Well worth the money for anyone with even a passing interest in the subject.

It's great.
Very good and interesting. Gifted it to my partner and they loved it. We learned a lot about poster design in the russian avant-garde. Good balance of pictures and text. The text is translanted in english, french and italian.

Very inspiring for a designer
Even if we’re not designing anything remotely like this, it’s really interesting to see the use of fonts, the placement of images, and the dynamics that are added by graphics.

Quality book
Nice chunky volume. For this price you want a book with a bit of heft. One point to note is that you don't have to queue for four hours to purchase it. Pesky capitalism.

Calidad/precio insuperables

I know some may think it's a bit too small, but it was a good size for me. It has tons of design. I loved it.
