The classic children's poem reproduced in full in booklet form and charmingly illustrated with a short biography of Robert Browning. Ideal for use in school or at home. Review: Not widely available - My favourite illustrators and this is a book I didn't previously know about, so I'm chuffed to bits with it. Review: Furthermore I am very pleased with my purchase - I would say yes it did meet my expectations.Furthermore I am very pleased with my purchase. Thank you.

Poor, black and white illustrations
I have returned item due to it not being as described. The description says it is beautifully illustrated, but the pictures are black and white.

not good quality
The poem it'self is lovely, as usual, but this version is printed in essentially a pamphlet, a flimsy cardboard cover and non glossy paper, not many illustrations either. so if you are just looking for a copy of the poem, that's fine. but if your actually looking for something to read to children for example, pick a different copy.

Print too small and illustrations all in black and white. Not suitable for children
This edition is emphatically not for children. The essay by G K Chesterton -much longer than Robert Browning's poem- is worth reading if you have spectacles powerful enough to enlarge the minuscular print. It would put most children off the poem for life UNLESS the reader-aloud could convey the magic of the Browning rhythms. Lesson learnt? Don't buy children's books unseen. .

Love this book!
The illustrations (photographs of the art) are wonderfully done! I loved them, and the rhyming of the story as well. I’m going to buy the book in print.

Timeless
Timeless poem, craftily illustrated by Arthur Rackham. I’ve loved it since a child. I spent a day in Hameln recently, where there is a museum with a substantial display about the ‘Rattenfanger’ legend. (Note: the Weser is on the western side of the town; most of the old maps have the river at the bottom of the sheet, hence the error about ‘southern side’. Similarly, the mountain is mislocated in the poem.)

Looks and feels like a bootleg copy of a book instead of a legit reprint
Reprint!? That's a pretty generous way to describe this book when the look and feel of it screams 'bootleg copy'. If I didn't need it for my kid's school project, I'd be returning it. The quality looks like it was printed at home and the book itself looks and feels like it was made by Shutterfly. The hardcover doesn't even close flat. Would not recommend, and especially not for almost $30.

Pied Piper
I love the original version done in verse as it was meant to be read by Robert Browning. The illustrations in this version done by Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone are AMAZING!!! I recommend this book to anyone who wants the original message of the pied piper. Also would be a good find to anyone who collects childrens art. (

Cheap printing quality
It was an inexpensive book - about $5.50, so what to expect from that… It looks like Amazon printed it the day I ordered it. The artwork is lovely but it looks like they stretched out small images on a computer so the pixels are low quality. The text was not thoughtfully arranged as the poetry is written. They could’ve done a much better job if they made the font smaller and arranged it better. A smaller book with smaller pictures would have been better than this average sized book with overly enlarged images. The writing is a bit difficult for children, but it’s still worth sharing with elementary aged children with some explanatory comments as you read.
