Very happy with this shellac
These flakes are great especially considering the price for over half a pound is less than some brands charge for four ounces. I've mixed three batches with them. Each one has dissolved in two to three hours. Each layer dries quickly and goes on smoothly. A glossy finish starts forming by the third layer using a 1.5% and 2% formulation. The color is the palest blonde and works well to enhance the wood grain.

High quality stuff
Great product for the price. Good color. Mixes easily. I used a small handheld electric coffee grinder to turn it into tiny dust to quickly mix.

Nice blend
I was a bit skeptical when I ordered this due to a few reviews stating that there was problems with drying. I experienced no such issues. I ground the flakes with a coffee grinder and mixed a 1.5 lb cut. It mixed exceptionally well in under 20 min with absolutely no contaminants. I further mixed with BLO 1 part to 3 part shellac. Application was flawless utilizing padding method on scrap cedar. Went with 5 light coats with about an hour between coats. Sanded with 400 after 3d coat and everytime between coats thereafter. Satin finish was the results. Applied wax over the top. On another sample, the same process was used with the exception of two additional coats of amber shellac on top instead of wax. I am satisfied with the results for the price.

Using it as a grain filler
I bought this stuff because I watched a video from StewMac about how he make his own shellac, I fallow their recommended 3:1 ratio and that seems to work, goes on easily takes about 10 minutes to dry between coats, a full 24hrs before flat sanding, then I hit it with a good primer and then paint, the results are pretty satisfying, my only issue is that you’ll have to use quite a bit to get a solid finish or it’ll start to flake off.

Poor quality
I always purchased my flakes elsewhere and they were excellent. I tried these due to the good price, mixed up mu usual 1.5lb cut. First problem i noticed, after they were dissolved i filtered through cheesecloth and it didn't come out clear, secondly, after applying it, the shellac would not dry completely, even days later. Not sure why, maybe too old?

Fresh, dissolves quick, very blonde, looks fantastic
I made a 3lb cut with denatured alcohol. It dissolved totally in a few hours (which means these are fresh, haven't been exposed to oxygen). The color is very blonde when applied, just a hint of warmth. I was looking for something that would preserve the chatoyancy in the knot on this piece of ash, and it looks fantastic with two coats.
