THE HERBAL MEDICINE-MAKER'ยฌ?S HANDBOOK is an entertaining compilation of natural home remedies written by one of the great herbalists, James Green, author of the best-selling THE MALE HERBAL. Writing in a delightfully personal and down-home style, Green emphasizes the point that herbal medicine-making is fundamental to every culture on the planet and is accessible to everyone. So, first head into the garden and learn to harvest your own herbs, and then head into your kitchen and whip up a batch of raspberry cough syrup, or perhaps a soothing elixir to erase the daily stresses of modern life. Review: Fantastic Introductory Book - As a complete beginner to the world of herbalism this was among the few 'must have' books recommended to me. Very informative but also very well written, the author is genuinely charming and clearly has a lot of passion for the subject matter, it may not cover all aspects of herbalism (I'm still too green to judge that) but it gives a great introduction to many of the techniques and processes involved in concocting your very own herbal remedies. Review: This is a great book after years of drying plants and making tinctures ... - This is a great book after years of drying plants and making tinctures I learned that I have been doing things wrong and parially degrading the properties in my herbs unintentionay. The quality of my herbs has vastly improved since reading this book and I have loaded a number of images on my twiter account @d9herbs so you can judge for yourself, they are now more fragrant and vibrantly coloured after preserving. This book will be remaining with me as a long-term reference guide. James has a spiritual connection with plants and I have become more mindful of nature and the way I collect herbs; seriously everything he says helps you collect plants at the right time in the right manner and you get really great results. Enjoy

Practical, useful and entertaining
This is an extremely useful book for those of us who would love to make our own herbal 'stuff' but don't know how. Green concentrates on a small number of herbs with wide uses, most of which are available (sometimes for wild harvesting) here in the UK, and presents enormous amounts of practical information geared towards lay herbalists who want to experiment with making their own preparations. Use this book for practical, easy to use low-down on how to make creams, salves, lotions, tinctures and many other herbal preparations. Green has a lovely voice and presents his material in an intelligent, entertaining way. Although my herbal library is extensive, I come back to this book again and again when it comes to making herbal preparations.

Not for the lazy reader
It's very good, and he certainly knows lots- it's possibly a tiny bit ernest, as books on alternative medicine can be. But if you're looking for the whole experience and not just a list of answers (as I was) then look no further- he does also provide answers, but so many words to get there!

Informative
Although the author is US based, the information is good and informative. Some plants aren't available wild here in the UK but that's fine, what matters is the over all information. The author discusses all things herbalist, with detailed instructions on making oils and the need to knows.

Practical, funny, honest!
I downloaded this book onto the Kindle app as I didn't think I would pay too much attention to it - since its written by an American for the American market - I was wrong...I've read it cover to cover, twice, and am now buying it in paperback so that I can tag and highlight pages and sections. James has presented a somewhat tricky subject in quite plain terms, but with a sense of humour that makes the reader want to keep reading. I have also tried some of the suggestions and recipes... the herb jello (botanica wiggleus) really works!! Whether you are serious about herb medicine, or you are just dabbling in boosting your own immune system, this book is a must.

Perfect for beginners
Yes, it has a lot of abracadabra things in the book, it leans a little bit on the "magic of the plants". But If you are a beginner like me, and don't know where to start, what materials you need, or how to get the things you want out of your plants, this book it's actually a very good place to start.
