Requiem for Hong Kong cinema
Stephen Chow wasn't a big name for western cinema goers, but he was the king of comedy in Hong Kong. A lot of his earlier films only hint at the humour of his work when you watch them on English subtitles. With Kung Fu Hustle he threw everything including the kitchen sink at the screen as a tribute to the golden age of Hong Kong cinema. Back when Shaw Brothers and Golden Harvest had a production line of films going on that went around the world in grind house cinemas, video tapes and DVD discs.Lovers of Hong Kong films will enjoy the 'in-jokes' or Easter eggs. Chow borrows from other genres as well such as MGM musicals. The soundtrack and film are sublime. But they also make me sad. Kung Fu Hustle likely indicates the high water mark of modern Hong Kong cinema in retrospect. The National Security Law suppressed much of the independent films like 'Ten Years' and documentary film makers. Established Hong Kong directors like Tsui Hark have been making propaganda dross (Operation Red Sea, The Battle at Lake Changjin) on the mainland due to a lack of funding for mainstream local films and a lack of young acting stars means that we can see it being close to the lights being turned out on Hong Kong cinema.Kung Fu Hustle is the memory i would like to have of modern Hong Kong cinema.

Great film
Great film, funny and probably a future cult classic. I had a dubbed version on DVD which was okay, but this digital version only has subtitles. It's not a big problem as I can read okay and you can appreciate the actors real voices

Crazy, zany and a visual treat
Kung Fu Hustle is such a thrilling and hilarious film to watch. It feels like a parody of a mythic hero story, with the main protagonist, Sing, a hopeless, selfish lowlife ultimately discovering he is a kung fu genius (character played by the writer/director Stephen Chow). One of the most wonderful aspects of the film for me is the setting in 1940s Shanghai - leading to the villains sporting suitably cheesy American gangster stylings of film noir, as well as indulging in glorious dance/musical routines - and the characters who live in the housing complex that is trying to survive against the corruption. Perhaps some of the cartoonish characterisations will cause offence (for example, a very femme, camp gay haberdasher is 'revealed' to actually be a secret kung fu master - obviously causing him to lose all his campness), but the charm of the film really wins me over, and I watch it every few years, as I know I'll love it each and every time.I'd really recommend this - especially to people who've never seen a Chinese-made film, as it really is a wonderful adventure/action/absurdist comedy gem.

Amazing movie, unfortunately no English Audio.
I love this movie, I have seen it a x100s.My children unfortunately wouldn't be able to keep up with the subtitles whilst keeping track of what was going on in the movie and it would have been good to have the option to hear the movie in English (no matter the high cringe levels). Due to the lack of options available, I have deducted a star which is a shame. I was looking for a way to be refunded as soon as I saw there was no english options, which meant we did not watch the movie in the end, but couldn't find that either. For future references, will always check the description to see more details before renting.

Introduction to the World of Comedy Kung Fu
Now, to the Hong Kong cinema veteran, this stuff has been going on for ages. The Comedy-Kung Fu combination, of which Jackie Chan HAS to be the all time King, was made famous by the boys of the opera house. Yes, that's Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao and Samo Hung... They got credit where they were due and many-a-family claims to have grown up to the three infamous actors. So when Kung Fu Hustle arrived, I had my doubts as to whether it would beat any of Jackie's feats.Thinking back, some films are funnier when you watch them. This was a laugh-a-minute movie that you could easily watch over and over. However, a great film improves the second time you watch it, KFH does just that. It leaves you kicking walls courtesy of a character that endears himself to you, especially since he's a failure at Kung Fu waiting for the opportune moment to gain a legendary status. When a secluded village becomes overrun by gansters, the moment arrives to unleash his repertoire of skills. Here's the part where we all learn something: If you can't fight except to get your face pound into the ground a dozen times, give it up!The only downside, is that the end comes to fast. Maybe that's just the tale of life, the Buddhist mantra... alas I'm not a Buddhist, the end DOES come too fast.
