This 2qt product is made from 100% pure biochar, ensuring no fillers or additives, and is easy to use by mixing with potting soil. It significantly improves soil carbon, nutrient content, and water retention, making it ideal for a variety of plants, including terrariums and bonsais. ## Description What is Biochar? Biochar is a type of charcoal made from plant materials such as hardwoods, grasses, and agricultural and forest residues that are decomposed at high temperatures, often during renewable energy production. During the process, the physical and chemical properties of the plant material change into a porous, stable, carbon-rich by-product known as biochar. Why use it? Biochar has been used in agriculture for many centuries. Adding biochar to soil has the potential of increasing soil carbon, soil nutrient content, increased water retention and water-soluble nutrients, and increased beneficial microbial life. DIRECTIONS Best results are achieved when adding this mix to your soil at least 5-7 days BEFORE planting. However, this can be used at any time in the planting process. Optimal ratio for most gardeners is 5-10% biochar in the top 6 inches of their soil. (1 part Bio Char to 9 parts planting soil). Indoor Plants(container plants, seeds, cuttings, transplants): Use a small rake or spoon and hand-mix this product around the plant within your desired container. Best results are adding close to the root zone. You can also just layer a light dusting on the top and water in as usual. Outdoor Plants (Gardens, Bedding Plants, Ornamentals): Use your conventional tiller and rake and till directly into the soil. Adding more over time can increase product performance. Trees and Shrubs: Best when applied to the root zone area. Rake into this area and water as desired. Compost Mix: Mix as needed within your compost process - use as desired as you would your final compost. This product is not intended to be used as a soil substitute. ## Features - Premium Soil Amendment - Increasing soil carbon, nutrient content, water retention, water-soluble nutrients, and beneficial microbial life. - Naturally Derived - Made from plant materials such as hardwoods, gr, and agricultural and forest residues - Easy to Use - Simply mix in with houseplant soil 1 part biochar to 9 parts potting soil - Use in Indoor and Outdoor Plants - Use in gardens, ornamentals, terrariums, or small houseplants such as orchid or bonsai - Pure - Made with 100% pure biochar, no fillers, additives or colors whatsoever ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B0BC268VT4 | | Brand Name | HARRIS | | Customer Reviews | 4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars (1,527) | | Item Type Name | Soil Amendment | | Item Weight | 0.24 Kilograms | | Manufacturer | Harris | | Manufacturer Part Number | CHAR-2 | | Model Number | CHAR-2 | | Style Name | Modern | | Unit Count | 11.7 Ounce | | Volume | 2.2 Liters | ## Product Details - **Brand:** HARRIS - **Item weight:** 0.24 Kilograms - **Style:** Modern - **Unit count:** 11.7 Ounce ## Images ![Horticultural Charcoal, Premium Biochar Soil Amendment for Plants and Terrariums, 2qt - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/818a2z-SsoL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: does this turn your hands or gloves black and get all over everything?** A: Yes. Because it’s so fine there is charcoal dust everywhere. All charcoal will turn your hands black but this stuff is the worst. It gets everywhere! Everywhere around youβ€”on the work surface, all over your arms, in the air. I wish I could get my money back. I would never have bought this if I knew it would be so fine and so messy. **Q: I'm confused. Is this horticultural charcoal or biochar? Cause those are two totally different things?** A: Good morning, It is a soil amendment very fine texture. I use it for purification. I mix Dr. Earth, biochar, pearlite, organic potting soil for a mix to pot philodendron. It is very fine like soil. First year using it. I hope that helps. ## Frequently Bought Together - Harris Horticultural Charcoal, Premium Biochar Soil Amendment for Plants and Terrariums, 2qt - SuperMoss (23114) Orchid Potting Bark, Natural, 4 quarts - FoxFarm Ocean Forest Potting Soil, 12qt – Light, Aerated Texture, Designed for All Container Plants – pH Adjusted for Optimal Nutrient Uptake, Effectively Retains Moisture (12 Quart) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.sn/products/511949368-horticultural-charcoal-premium-biochar-soil-amendment-for-plants-and-terrariums](https://www.desertcart.sn/products/511949368-horticultural-charcoal-premium-biochar-soil-amendment-for-plants-and-terrariums) --- *Product available on Desertcart Senegal* *Store origin: SN* *Last updated: 2026-10-24*
