We went from a trainer potty seat (with steps) which was too wobbly, to a stool with a potty insert which was also not ideal as you had to remove on and off the toilet to use, to this and love it!! So easy for my toddler to flip his seat down and put it back up. We love the soft close as this keeps the startling noise of a toilet seat from happening. My little one is 3 and mastering "potty training". He is not afraid of the toilet and seems comfortable using other toilets (in public or at others homes) which do not have the small insert here as I think he has gotten used to the normal size toilet with this as a help as our home.
